I’m very aware of that. It just seems strange that we seized the term “American” for ourselves. I wonder how that came about.

 

Around 1776, when we were still dealing with 13 Nation-States, we needed to form a common identity, beyone that of say Virginia, or New York, or Delaware, or North/South Carolina.

Now that a little bit of time has passed I can say I’ve learned a little from this thread. I shouldn’t have stormed in here guns blazing, it didn’t accomplish anything for anyone. Even though @Ra's Al Ghul and I have very different politics I shouldn’t have made concrete judgements. It would have been better if I simply asked what his position on this topic was and then went from there. I’m strong enough to admit when I could’ve done better. I also shouldn’t of went down the rabbit hole with @MLMVSS

 

Man I just want like 8 kids to form a paramilitary militia based on homeschooling, Jesus, and my own independent scouting programs (BSA is for pussies.)

 

That’s a lot of kids to have, especially with the sole purpose of using them to form an army. Also, that kind of came out of nowhere. :/

 

Yeah, looking back, my posts were more interrogative and demeaning than I intended them to be. I’m not a huge fan of automatic assumptions (probably from being around my family, where they constantly see even slightly-left leaners as murdrous, evil socialists) or slapping an either-or on several differing positions, although I’m sure I’m guilty of it at times. But it’s not just you or me; it’s unfortunately a truth in today’s politics as a whole, and we’re unknowingly being victims of it. Hardly anyone listens to each other now and instead assume the worst about people. :/

I agree with you, politics isn’t supposed to be a black and white/us vs them fight to the death. The good news is things can get better when individuals like us self criticize and try to improve our ways of thinking. I’ll admit it, I got triggered. It’s a common stereotype of various leftist groups and I fulfilled the stereotype. It’s a flaw that I apparently need to work on.

I wouldn’t shame someone who buys a specific breed of dog but I personally couldn’t care less about breed. In fact I’ve only had one purebred dog in my life and ironically he’s the most aggressive, unpredictable animal I’ve ever had.

 

I'm married to a Native American whose mom grew up on the reservation. My wife's great grandfather went to Alcatraz for resisting feds that were forcing native children into boarding school in Arizona. I can tell you from spending lots of time with natives that it's not whites they hate it's government. If you want to get rid of these problems "white people" create make government smaller and less effective everywhere you can, non existent if you are really brave...

 

Let's say I marry a black woman, and produce a mullato kid. The kid may have identity issues his whole life. I'm very Celtic and they couldn't pass as black ever. That group might go so far as to reject them completely outside of their extended family on the mothers side.

On the other side there would be my white family, and while white people are encouraged to be selfdefeatingly liberal, my kid wouldn't look like his grandparents, or aunts or uncles. I would be producing an outsider of both groups.

Now let's talk privilege. You may say it doesn't exist but trust me, a well dressed white person always gets the shot at the life that they deserve. I would know, I can walk on to basically any job in America that doesn't require a degree and aquire it. I want my son or daughter to have the same opportunities.

I agree with you, this is completely racist and unacceptable. There is also some paranoia as well.

I believe "mullato" is a racist term too. The kid will be fine if he is not surrounded by racist people such as yourself. It would be an opportunity for your racist family to open their eyes as well. Why wouldn't you want your children to have an education? Sometimes the Internet really has me scratching my head with people saying things they actually believe. Have we not evolved past this kind of behavior?

 

As far as my racist family, we are actually pretty damn multicultural, with Mexican, Chinese, Native, and various other races. We are actually quite accepting of other races. It seems it is YOU who likes to think we are racist. Hell I could date a black man an my family wouldn't care. Just a typical triggered millennial who think that anyone that thinks pragmatically on the subject is racist by default.
