Basically YES. I know that I am not quite ready for finally ending masturbation. But every time I did it I got an increasing feeling of not wanting to do what I'm doing, despite of all the pleasant sensations associated with it. That's the point, I think. If you feel the strong desire, from deep down inside, not to do it, then and only then you might reach real abstinence. Otherwise, if you have a fear of missing out, you'll keep trying...

It's defiantly possible, but a deeply engrained habit for most of us. Celibacy is an ancient practice, I know you not talking about Semen Retention, but its part of keeping your hands off it. Religiously Celibacy is a vow for many seekers of god, only despite it, they are burning inside. That flame of lust is still very strong and produces a lot of tension.

I wander if there is a way to end the seeking of this pleasure altogether? No more wanting and not wanting.
