The reason China, Korea, and Japan grew so much is because they retained and developed their industries which allowed for social mobility and economic growth. But that didn't happen in Scotland, the already cheap low-pay industrial work is gone, further pushing the poverty cycle. Most people are low-income not middle-income. The same applies to northern England too. I'm not smart or know anything about economics but you can't look at a dump like Cumbernauld or Airdrie and say they are "advanced economies". All that GDP is put into the pockets of yuppies from Morningside and North Berwick.
