These are incredibly offensive generalizations. Welcome to my Ignore List.

  10. For me it was the sexual abuse. When I was young I felt ashamed for my pmo habit, but it was actually religion which helped me overcome the unhealthy shaming where you view yourself as a piece of shit, scum, or evil trash. I realized that healthy shaming is an invitation to acknowledge that what I was doing, the sin, was below my dignity as a human being, but that my worth as human being could never be taken away because I've been made in the image of God.

Now I'm not the most religious person, but I believe religions get a bad rap and usually it's not because of the doctrines but because of the example of those who do not practice what they preach.

  11. Story of my life.

That´s where my rejection against religion comes from.
From my experience, the people that claim to be the most religious, are the people who are most abusive. And they are always using religion to force someting on you. For them religion is just a way of exercising power on you. And a justification for everything they do or believe.
And yes I´m really generalising here. But everyone I grew up with has been that way. And even if don´t read this post: This is my opinion. Deal with it.

Shame is something we feel should someone catch us doing something that most people recognize as wrong.

With guilt, I internally know I have done something wrong even if nobody else was aware of the fact. It is conscience based [con-science.. with knowledge].

A culture that has retained a sense of shame is helpful for a child to grow up with good morals and socially acceptable habits. Teaching children good habits is extremely important. The development of good habits from an early age, with a decent upbringing, gives a person a good head-start in life.

Being brought up in a shameless culture will make it very hard for a person to develop character. They'll be like the Baron Von Munchasen, who tried, by his pigtail, to raise both himself and his horse from a bog. Still, it can be done.
