I think most people miss this point. They think that if animals do it that means its ok. We're getting our morality from animals!

You know animals also like to kill their own kids from time to time so it must mean its natural therefore it's ok!

I didn't watch the video, but I think there is a distinction that needs to be made between pre-pubescent children and adolescent teenagers. Biologically, the adolescents are adults, even though they are legally children. In many places throughout history, girls could be married off after menarche. In the USA, there is remnants of a folk coming-of-age with the "sweet 16", and Latin America has the quinceañera, and those don't necessarily coincide with either the legal age of consent or the legal age for marriage, which can even be different from each other.

It can be argued that attraction to adolescents is natural, considering the primary and secondary sex characteristics. The timing of sexual maturity and legal maturity doesn't necessarily coincide. This isn't advocating or condoning breaking cultural/legal restrictions where you live, though! Attraction to pre-pubescent children is not natural, and is a complete perversion.

 

I don't laugh at you, I just roll my eyes... And it's not at you, it's the post you made. Yes, the media brainwashes some people but everyone is brainwash. No one's thought is their own, they're forced on them by someone else. No idea is really that original.

As it says in Ecclesiastes: Nothing is truly new; it has all been done or said before. What can you point to that is new? How do you know it didn’t exist long ages ago? We don’t remember what happened in those former times, and in the future generations no one will remember what we have done back here.

Paedophilia is sick and wrong, but I don’t advocate for killing them either. Of course, everything is on a case by case basis, and there will be those who don’t feel sorry for their actions. These ones need to be taken care of before they further harm children, whether by incarceration or whatnot. But there are others who do, and want to change their life, but they don’t know how. As porn addicts, I’m sure you all felt the same way (although porn is nowhere near as bad as paedophilia, other than CP).

I wouldn’t mind them being classified as sex offenders for life, and I support them not working with children ever, but at the same time, that classification makes them harder to get into a normal life.

 

I think you misunderstood my reply. For people who are consuming media they are being brainwashed by media, for someone studying history they're being brainwashed by history, for someone coming to NoFap they're being brainwashed by NoFap, for someone reading scripture they're being brainwashed by scripture. Not one thought is truly original, all thoughts are forced upon us by someone else.

 

@Castielle What do you think about forgiveness for them, for the ones who are truly sorry from their hearts and walk their talk? For the ones that do fall( give in or whatever) but are trying *hard* to combat their mental illness/disorder /addiction or whatever you all want to name it (with professional help)? Or the ones who finally want to turn their life (after having acted upon their desires in whatever way) around for sure and seek help?
Do you think they don't deserve forgiveness & compassion?

I don’t see how you could watch that video and disagree with the message being presented? The message is clear that there is a wrong impression that pedophiles are child abusers and that child abusers are pedophiles. This stigmatization has hindered pedophiles from being able to seek treatment for their condition because this false stigma could absolutely ruin their life. This inability to publicly come foreword and seek help leads many pedophiles to feel isolated and alone, which in turn INCREASES the risk of them acting out becaus they feel they have nothing to lose.

Simply put, the heartless attitude some of you have towards these people is actually contributing to an increase risk of child abuse, so pat your self-righteous selves on the back.

Hi Castielle, sorry I wrote that post when I was a bit angry and I didn't realise how it came across or how it might have affected people reading it. (Admittedly, I must seem quite angry / pushy most of the time in my writing and it comes across as rude, I only started to think about that deeply when you mentioned it in private, it is something I'm working to change. You've posed some great points to consider, hope everyone is doing OK, got a busy weekend with a lot of work so it is not going to be so great for me

 

I believe in forgiveness, always. If someone is sincere, I will do my best to forgive them. I try not to judge, because I am not in their shoes. I'm sure some people would find the things I've watched in porn to be absolutely abhorrent and disgusting, but I would hope they could still forgive me and not look at me differently for mistakes I deeply regret.

Also, if it's good enough for Jesus, it's good enough for me. He says to forgive 70 times 7 times (of course not meant to be taken literally, but just to say, essentially, never stop forgiving people). He also says that no sin is too big for God to forgive and no person is too far gone for God to redeem, so who am I to argue with that.

That being said, I understand that a lot of people can't feel that way about certain issues, and pedophilia is certainly one of them. I totally get that. Which is why I'm trying to focus here on those who haven't ever committed any actions, but are simply victims of their own evil desires that they wish they could control.

 

This is so incredibly perfectly stated. I'm so glad you said this. I was honestly beginning to feel completely alone in this perspective, although I know my husband agrees with me. I could not agree more.

Also, the true definition of paedophilia are those who love prepubescent kids. I’m not condoning adult love with a teenager, and I support a minimum age of consent, but I think there’s a large difference between liking a 15-16 year old, and liking a 5-6 year old.

 

I agree with @Castielle that the extreme, absurd and idiotic examples given were ridiculous. Furthermore, there is a lack of clarity generally about what paedophilia is. That was the first main point in the TEDx-talk linked in the opening post #1: what paedophilia is and what it isn't. She quoted the ICD-10 where paedophilia is coded as "the sexual preference for preadolescent children." She added that it is listed under the Sexual Disorders.

However, after referring to the International Classification of Diseases and the section, Sexual Disorders, she goes straight ahead referring to this as a natural sexual orientation, such as preference for the opposite sex and/or the same sex. She offers no support or research to underpin her claim that paedophiles are born with that preference.

In fact, even her use of the ICD 10 is misleading. That publication states that it is: "A persistent or a predominant preference for sexual activity with a prepubescent child or children." She interpolated the word preadolescent for the word prepubescent. It may be said that they are synonyms. But why do it? It raised my suspicions immediately.

However, what she does state and reiterates accurately is that paedophilia is not the same as child sexual abuse. Some paedophiles may commit this crime, but some do not. She believes the majority do not. She claims that research shows that only 20%-30% of child sexual abuse cases are committed by paedophiles.

I do not agree with everything she says, but some of it I do. And I do think there is room for sympathy, even empathy and compassion for individuals who did not want this attraction to prepubescent children and have no intention of sexually abusing them. Even those that have committed such horrific crimes may, perhaps, be rehabilitated somehow.

 

So what's next Incest? Beastiality? Necrophilia?

What? This is like saying that only 20%-30% of murders are committed by murderers. This woman is insane.

They can simply remain anonymous and not try to make themselves victims, because that is what those who seek attention for this unwanted attraction are doing. There should not, and hopefully will not be any sympathy at all. Sympathy sounds nice, but it's actually a dangerous thing if used by those shadowy figures who would like bad things to be thought of as good. If it is indeed a "sexual orientation" as this insane woman believes it to be, then there can be no rehabilitation. If there can be rehabilitation for this sexual orientation, then there can be rehabiliation for all deviant sexual orientations, including gays. So there can be no rehabilitation. And if there can be no rehabilitation, then no amount of talking can make them stop being attracted to pre-teens. And if no amount of talking, or attention can end that attraction, then there is no reason to bring it up or talk about it or make a spectacle of it. Unless of course you have ulterior motives. There are other pedos out there who do not share these benevolent pedos' ideals, and as long as those exist, all pedos need to be looked at with a magnifying glass. If you truly seek to not harm any child. Good. I applaud you. So then simply don't harm any child and go about your life. But don't expect me, or other non-pedos to simply take you at your word. Taking them at their word is ultimately what this "pedos aren't kid fuckers" movement will lead to. Because that's the only logical thing it can lead to.
