Pornstar died age 35

Some do check ID. Many don't. The ones that do will often accept a fake ID, which is easy to obtain. I think some do even appreciate it when the girls are so young, sadly. I will say it's not always easy to distinguish someone who is underage. I know I was physically mature at a very young age and could pass for over 18 easily. It's scary, really, how sometimes you can't know for sure if the "woman" on stage or on the screen is of legal age or not, and with porn, the age of consent differs in other countries.

 

In the end she chose to do porn. I didn't see anything about her having health problems, so I'm guessing her death was a suicide. If anyone has information confirming or disproving this is I'd like to read it. This isn't the "nice" thing to say but I don't feel sorry for her at all. These people make their living off of other people's addictions.

 

The age of consent to do porn or to prostitute oneself is quite often even higher then the normal age of consent or not? At least where i was born its like that (age of consent to have sex: 16 - 14 if the partner is under 21 and its clearly not abusive - , age of consent to sell yourself 18 and in some places 21) My bias is that people like them that young. Cause although some appear "premature" you still see it, you feel it when they talk etc. I know some girls that age (because of sports) sure some have curves etc but i never would mistake them with a ten year older. Thats what guys later say. At court...

 

this is THE Problem. As much as we often have a sad sad destiny, where we go to with it, depends on us: its our decision. And that this idea isnt "up to date" is surely not helping. But we are in fact what we make out of the mess in which we find us sooner or later. It doesnt help to insist on being the victim. What is in a way a tragedy because of course it does play a role... but the only way to leave stuff behind is as well to leave the victim-role behind you.

 

Exactly. I pride myself on consuming things conciously and not supporting exploitation wherever I can. I focus on how porn affects me as the main reason why I want to quit but what I am always trying to remind myself of is that it's just so plainly against my most basic ethical codes and who I am as a person.

I don't think it's fair to put the entire blame on her for her death. I've read stories of women who were kidnapped and forced to do drugs. Once they became addicts, it was game over for them. They were like slaves who would do anything for that drug.

Maybe the women didn't have the support. I don't know how strong I'd have been had I not found this forum.

I once saw a documentary on Nat Geo about prostitutes where the woman said her pimp knows where she lives and where her family lives, and he's threatened her against trying to escape.

Porn was originally owned by the mafia and I guess the mafia still has power over the industry. It's not easy to fight/run away from the mafia.

Very sad story... not everyone involved in the porn industry is a victim, but there surely are many performers that suffered logn term and terrible consequences from the choice of getting into the industry.

I can't even imagine the strength it takes to live a lifetime with your image being all over the internet in often pretty degrading situations.... It clearly ends up being too much of a burden for some.

Also it's not a secret that drug abuse is common between porn performers, it only goes to show how tough it must be for many of those involved in it to cope with the crazyness of it all.

I am afraid that "healthy" and happy porn performers are not the rule but the exception in the industry. For a few that manage to get really popular, wealthy and not go insane or depressed there are scores of "disposable" ones that the industry chews and spits out in quick succession.

 

You are talking about human trafficking which is by far the darkest shit I can think of.
But please don't equate it with being a pornstar.
While SOME porn actresses might've been forced into doing porn, the actress we are talking about was not one of them and to put her in the same box as the real human trafficking victims to me is just tasteless.
