Nofap and insomnia

    I've always had sleep problems, but they got worse when I started nofap. Every day I woke up a few hours earlier than planned. For some time everything was fine. I am currently in the fourth month of nofap and I have started waking up earlier again. I sleep for 4 hours, the slightest noise wakes me up (and a family with 7 children lives two floors above, so it's not difficult). I've been eating healthier in recent days (I've given up trans fats and I no longer snack between meals). Maybe my body simply has too much energy and decides that 4 hours of sleep is enough? How can I strengthen my sleep so that it doesn't wake me up? I have curtains on the windows, ear plugs, it's winter so the room is at a good temperature for sleep, I have eliminated blue light, so theoretically there is no reasons for me to have problems with sleep.

    Thank you for posting. I have the same struggle. I've been porn free for over 5 months, but I'm still struggling with Masturbation. I have found probiotics to be very helpful, and worked well for several months, but I feel stuck right now. I've used Dr. William Davis Supergut for the probiotic tips, they do help with all over health and sleep. I do great until I wake up at 0130 and can't get back to sleep for an hour or more. I think I need to take that time, and do things to reset my mind like prayer or reading, but that is not what I want at that hour. The old fantasies or porn images come to mind eventually and I fall. I've gotten to about a week sober, but then I am crazy sleep deprived, my mind can't think clearly, and I fall again. I was Addicted to Advil PM for about 5 years and I won't go back to that. I think I need to cycle between using Meltonin 2 or 3 times a week and suffer the other nights. I'm hoping that if I can get through the 14 day dopamine reset, that sleep will be more manageable. I know I need to also completely abandon my fantasy world, and be more strict about stopping arousal.

    What probiotics do you use? I heard that kefir is a good probiotic.

    Dr Davis recommends making your own probiotics because commercial is not potent enough. It's not that hard, just need a yogurt maker, half and half, and starter probiotics. Search for his supergut web page to get more info. The starter that helps with sleep can be found in a drink called yakult. l-Reuteri is a starter that is missing in most Americans and needed for sleep, testosterone, and a buch of stuff.

    What if the idea that we have to sleep continuously for 7 or 8 hours to enjoy “a proper sleep” is not true?

    How to sleep better?
    Before bed try this:
    1) Cold shower followed by warm bath.
    2) Wim Hof breathing exercise.
    During the day;
    Place your bare feet on the earth for 10-20 minutes.

    Thanks for the suggestions. I have no problem these days getting to sleep, it's staying asleep that is the issue. Sleep is critical for muscled recovery, brain detox, testosterones development and a myriad of other health benefits. I know when I wake up after 4 hours of sleep, I am not rested and to cotinine my day in that state is probably not an optimal decision. Training your body to go to bed and get up at the same time everyday is an important habit. I heard that rem basically happens every 4 hours, so if you are not getting two rem cycles you are basically only getting half of the restorative functions of sleep. I could probably benefit from a sleep lab, but I would like to see how a couple weeks of nofap helps or hurts this first.

    I heard somewhere that some people who are healthy and do various "exercises" can sleep less, but I would like to sleep at least these 6-7 hours to be well rested. And how do you know this method? did you come up with this yourself?

    You can sleep 6-7 hours well rested even if you wake up 2 or 3 times within that period. Who knows better, the body or the mind?
    I did not come up with this "method" myself. I did some research then put the exercises to the test. The results are that I sleep better, and that includes waking up during the night. There is nothing stopping you putting these exercises to the test yourself. Maybe they will work for you, maybe they won't. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

    I'm three nights clean right now. First two nights I did some cold medicine sleep aids (still fighting a sniffle). Last night I used nothing and was up at 0200, but then was able to go back to bed, sleeping on and off but stayed away from fantasy or self pleasure. I feel rested now and more optimistic. I'm going to do one night on Melatonin, and one night off for another 4 days, and then probably switch to two nights off one night on until I get to 14 days. I know when I get to 7 days, the hormones are going to be high and will most likely keep me up.

    bro...be careful on those anti-inflamatories...unless you eat before taking them it can cause havok on your stomach....it did it to me....fyi..
