I prepare educational playlist so that way I'm always watching some interesting stuff. Mostly about IT.
I’ve set my YouTube on my phone to 1 min. It’s been that way for 3 months or so. I still watch YouTube on my TV, but my TVs not around when my homework is front of me, so when I’m in my room I pretty much can’t access YouTube. Only reason I have 1 min is cause you can’t set a 0 min limit and it has to affect both the YouTube app and safari.
Also had an issue with youtube. What the content I watch is quite secondary if I do it to numb out. As I always thought porn and gaming were somehow worse than yt, I paid no attention. Then it ate me whole. Spend way, way, way too much time watching basically whatever. Doing a PMO/yt withdrawal. Day 16 or something. I am ready to become a happy boomer, never to return to that helpless consumerist TV hell hole.
I have YouTube addiction personally. My tips to remove Youtube addiction for good. Delete, or at least disable if delete is not possible, YouTube app of your phone. Like in any addiction restriction completely might not work. Put a time in your calendar, liek 30 mins at the most, for YouTube watching. You might consider ditching your smart phone to the dumb phone where you will not find YouTube and will save much time. Make a timer or blockage for your phone apps you are addicted to with Parental control and let your friend open the password for the app. If you are subscribed to Youtube Premium service, just CANCEL it. Subscribing to anything makes us spend more on these services to take advantage of your monthly payments. When not subscribed, there is no reason to take that advantage and ads will make watch time less appealing. I am personally ditching my smartphone to the curbs and going back to Nokia basic phone I hope this helps!
I've been testing the following method: Blocking youtube with cold turkey with exceptions. Meaning, putting the playlists that are educational and needed by me in the exceptions. It is a good method I wish I knew earlier.
Distraction free is a nice extension for Firefox. Allows to cut out some of the more addictive features: autoplay, recommended, comments. Can be a safer mode for watching sth specific.
There's also Unhook which is on Firefox, Chrome and Edge. I recently installed it and now YouTube is a far more relaxing place without all the video recommendations. The only problem is it only works on desktops. Wish there was a mobile app that did the same thing.
Thanks for the recommendation. When I added it to my desktop, they mentioned you can get it on an Android. "Mobile Unhook also works on Android devices. Install Kiwi Browser from the Play Store. Then, navigate to the Chrome web store and add Unhook!"
Yes I am addicted to yt . You know why we fail against porn because we are phone adict also no matter how hard we try if we are phone addict we will fall to the trap of porn again. We are more vulnerable then the person who is not addicted to phone .
Sometimes, I think about how much more I could've accomplished if I hadn't spent countless hours on YouTube back in the day
I am five weeks no youtube today. Also, no streaming or gaming. Started crafting nerdy shit, cardboard houses and so on. Only have youtube for music in the background. Its okay now, first weeks I had withdrawal similar to porn withdrawal. Hows the rest of us doin?
My smartphone actually broke today, so I have no YouTube anymore. My laptop is so old it can't run Youtube smoothly. I might just go with dumb phone which I will be able to buy tomorrow only. This helped me also with porn, as my computer is so old, it just does not play porn well enough. It just stops all the time as there is not enough running power and I used my phone for that pleasure instead. So no more smart phone, only feature phone, so no apps for me. No porn and no Youtube! I am so helped and free!
nice. for me it's the 2nd or 3rd week now. I also felt withdrawals similiar to nicotine withdrawals. but feeling better now. reading books. I'm surprised sometimes how productive I am. not always as sometimes I feel low but in general for sure increase in productivity
Yo linerider. Sorta feel the same, re productivity. Also, in hindsight I am sort of surprised where I took all that time I spent on youtube from. Now I am just sorta living my life and that takes so much time.
