https://scopeblog.stanford.edu/2023/02/14/is-an-increase-in-penile-length-cause-for-concern/ This just came out 4 weeks ago: researchers found that average penis length has increased from 4.8 inches to 6 inches over the past 29 years! If that’s true, the male body is changing at an extraordinary pace, and my length (4 1/2 inches) is shorter than I realized! I have so many thoughts on this but wanted to see what others think …
Interesting stat. I wonder if someone goes around measuring people's dicks or if they just ask them how big they are. Makes no difference if I am above or below average. You can only piss with the cock that you have.
Such a large increase is very out there. It would be important to check if the authors of this study used the same methods as previous studies. In the (unlikely) case that it is verifiably true, then that is what is it and it's all that it is. +TenPercent, it's your brain that adapts the study into how you think about the world. Choose a way to adapt it that doesn't cause you too much stress.
@movingon77 lol I love that @+TenPercent I feel your concern. If it is true… I went from average to bit below average. Funny I just posted a journal entry about penis size obsession. Of coirse I jumped into this post as soon as I read the title. Why do we care so much about size? It’s frustrating
Most likely because of the infiltration of prom into society and sex culture. I don’t think historically many cultures did not obsess over size (that’s just my uninformed guess) and only when porn was pushed in free distribution over the internet in the last 3 decades, there became an obsession (or mental competition) for guys to be self-conscious about their size. It’s like back in the day young men were fine with changing in locker rooms and being okay with ge tile exposed, and now every high school kid in PE is so full of fear and scared to even change in front of a bunch of guys because they’re afraid of what their peers will say when they see their dick. Porn has mentally and emotionally emasculated a generation of men and their confidence! Who care if your own penis is 3 inches or 7 inches, that’s not what makes you manly! True masculinity is the capacity to have integrity in being a strong, confident, caring, empathetic, and gentle husband to your wife, father to your kids, neighbor to your community, etc. It’s not the shallow notion of having 3 more inches compared to the other guy.
I noticed they received and accepted the study last year, but published it Valentines Day. Coincidence? Specifically though: And apparently this is in contrast to other measures of reproductive health like sperm quality and testoserone, so if we look at that as an inversely proportionate relationship it looks like a bunch of guys have relatively empty boners. Aside from endocrine disrupting chemicals they also said:
In fact, we were not fine stripping off in changing rooms or having communal showers. We were obsessed with dick size.
Maybe it’s cultural then and just in America men had a probably being naked in communal places. Because growing up as a kid, when I went with my father to any gym, hot springs, sauna, etc., he and his buddies were completely fine with changing in the same room, cracking jokes as they were but naked, etc. My dad and his group were(are) European, so maybe it’s just a cultural thing. Idk. But growing up as a kid in America, I’ve noticed that everyone is so ashamed or too self-conscious in my circles. (And I myself was like that but am trying to be indifferent know and more confident). But yea, I do largely think it is a porn issue and the shame, guilt, and comparison men put themselves through in their minds because they are competing with pornstars who have penises on the extremely far side of the spectrum (8-12inches).
Well, maybe the Brits are just like the Americans in that way. My father came from a more Western European country and the way he goes about it is way different than how I grew up. Lol I’m 30, and my dad is 56.
Lol, okay. Of course, the Scandinavians are totally comfortable with nakedness, same sex and even opposite sex. So, culture does play a part. In Australia the family go and have a barbeque together. In Finland the family have a nude sauna together.
A 25% increase in only 29 years seems incredibly unlikely. It's much more likely that men with above average sized penises are more willing to participate in studies where penis length is measured. So the result is probably skewed and the average is actually lower. If we randomly selected 1000 men and forced them to have their penises measured, then we would get the real average. But of course, that isn't realistic. I would guess that the length has seemingly increased because men have gotten more insecure about their size. Mainly because of getting a warped perception of what is normal from porn. TL;DR I would guess that men who actually have averaged sized penises have (because of porn) become more insecure about their size and have become less willing to participate in studies where penis size is measured.
It's not like that here in Sweden anymore. There was a very liberal attitude around nudity up until around the 1980s. I think it started changing in the 1980s/1990s and now we are more similar to America when it comes to views on nudity. I'm not sure why the shift happened because it happened either before I was born or when I was a very small child. Men who are middle aged and up tend to seem completely comfortable in the locker rooms and saunas though, but that is with the same sex nowadays.
Not necessarily. If we randomly selected 1000 men and forced them to have their penises measured, then we would get the real average. But since we can't do that, we don't really know what the true average is.
