Such as hedge fund billionaires, Ceo's, the upper class who inherit wealth. Pro athletes, musicians, entertainers, Hollywood actors. High price lawyers who help navigate a corrupt and convoluted system.

I wonder when the Mexicans and others who are paid less than minimum wage in horrible working conditions will decide there is no "sense in working" and stop doing those jobs that are essential to the survival of all of us human beings? [ If your an idiot the jobs are farming and the production of what we eat our most basic need of survival.]

How many of you yahoos who think you are "productive" and say you would stop working under communism do anything that anyone would miss? Probably none or only a small few of you.

    Ah, my arch-nemesis.

80% of millionaires in America are self-made. They didn't inherit their wealth.

Agriculture is largely mechanized now. 100 years ago, 50% of all Americans were employed in agriculture. Today, a mere 3% of Americans harvest the food that feeds the other 97%. If immigrant agriculture workers up and vanished, there would certainly be a disruption, but it wouldn't be anything near catastrophic like you're suggesting. There are millions of low-skilled Americans who could easily do those jobs, and who need those jobs. The reason illegal immigrants are paid less than minimum wage (which I'm sure you hate) is because farmers can get away with it. They are incentivized to hire illegals because they can pay them less than they'd have to pay American citizens. Funny how markets work, isn't it? Institute mandatory e-Verify, and that would change very quickly--as it should.

This is a really, really horrible line of reasoning. One of the many beauties of the free market is that it allows workers to specialize in areas besides farming, infrastructure, and medicine. Western nations are full of all kinds of luxuries and comforts that aren't crucial for survival, and that's one of the reasons western nations are amazing places to live in. If you'd prefer a system where everyone only did crucial work that was necessary for human survival, there are dozens of third-world countries that I'm sure would happily take you in.

^ A Millionaire doesn't mean someone is rich anymore.

My world would come crashing down if you lost your job writing articles for Vogue magazine. I could not live without that luxury. Most of us would do better without trash journalism, television and all these other vices that get peddled to us. One thing they are not is luxuries. They are crap that fills our minds.

Communism doesn't work because it's against basic human nature.

If that's the case, you should give us a million dollars each then! We all can be poor millionaires!

In the United States, an income of $390k a year firmly puts you in the ever-so-despised "Top 1%" that you socialist types like to rail on.

(watch this, socialists hate when you try to get them to commit to specifics on any of these issues ...)

Tell us, @Themadfapper, how do you define "rich?" I need a number.

Of course he's not. Trump and his kids have both been handed quite a bit on a silver platter. But it's absolutely true that 80% of millionaires are self-made ... and the vast, vast majority of them became millionaires by building small businesses that have given jobs to hundreds of thousands of those middle-class folk that socialists pretend to champion.

Once again, I'm stunned at your ability to come up with sources that contradict your own conclusions. There are 320 million people in America. 320 MILLION. And you give us a story that covers the inheritance claims of the richest 400? Give me a break. Of course the very, VERY richest will likely have had a jump-start of some kind. The Forbes 400 list that this story covers required a minimum net worth of $1.1 billion to make the cut. You're literally talking about the very, very, very top of the ladder. Don't complain about "the rich", and then let your definition of "rich" shift to whatever metric best fits your current argument.

For the record: I hate when socialists talk about "millionaires and billionaires", as if they're in the same category. Billionaires by definition have 1000x as much wealth as millionaires. Imagine if I said, "I can't believe the greed of all these thousandaires and millionaires." It would sound ridiculous because it is.

If Inequality.org wanted to be taken seriously, a more balanced study would be to take the actual top 1%--the top 3 million wealthiest Americans, or so--and see how many of them started with a cushy inheritance. The answer would surprise you ... which is why I think groups like Inequality.org conveniently choose not to cover it.
