Self awareness - using the past porn experience to grow beyond ones self. Questions during reboot.

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by Deleted Account, Aug 14, 2018.

  1. I am an analytical thinker. So after only 4 days of rebooting I am asking myself a lot of questions. Are there for example other behavior patterns which got formed through the addiction? In other terms if I stay without PMO but still keep other habits supporting it, wouldn't this be from the beginning a recipe for fighting an invisible enemy?

One thing I noticed is that I don't know since when, I eat without being hungry. Seemingly unrelated to porn addiction I think it has more to do without than one might think. Eating is a dopamine reward just as porn use.

Going further I noticed that I am eating rather fast to finish my meals. Doesn't this remind of something as well?

Often I have no plan for the day and rather react to happenings than steering towards certain goals. Sounds familiar as well.

And worst seems to be the frequent use of the Internet even when doing 'normal' stuff. How often do I get distracted by yahoo news just to view information absolutely unrelated to the real goals of my day? Fits pretty well to the pattern.

So keeping those habits is almost like telling my body: 'In the new mental diet you can't watch porn but outside that you are allowed to do anything to counteract. How comfortable do you feel about this?'

I take a very useful lesson from this for my reboot to build a better future for myself. To grow beyond myself I have to align my habits outside porn habit reboot to be successful. Not an easy task in our stimulation overloaded world.

The key is self awareness of any single second. Do I slowly savor my food? Do I know when I have eaten enough? Can I stay Internet free until the goals of my day are achieved?

At the moment most of it is out of control so it's no wonder that my life is more or less a mess. Reboot takes more than not watching porn. Cravings resulting in relapse mostly come from not having fixed other unconsciously formed habits. It does not all come from abstaining from porn.

    Porn is boring
    Porn is dumb
    Life is waiting for us.

I can relate to some of this, like eating toomuch and at a fast pace as well, so I decided, to cut my meal to twice a day instead of 3, and a timer to slow down.

It seems like you are an analytical overthinker. :D
