Movies with triggers for SOs

So, I was wondering if this could be a thread here. Can we post possible triggering movies so that they can be avoided when we aren't wanting to be triggered?

I saw in the more private SO group someone give a heads up about Blade Runner 2049 and that it could be triggering for SOs. I really appreciated that, because those triggering moments are super painful especially when you are trying to do a fun activity like watch a movie. I'd rather know ahead of time to pick another movie.

In reading that thread, it reminded me that one of my kids asked for Spider-Man Homecoming for Christmas. I wanted to look it up before buying it to see what was in it because I am somewhat particular about what my kids see media wise. I saw that it has a scene in it that a kid is in class and his teacher asks him what he is doing on the computer and he says "looking at porn". Then the audience laughs apparently, because it is funny. I read that some parents had to explain after the movie what porn was to their 9/10 year olds. To me that is not OK. They also said that teen girls in the movie were playing the F/marry/kill game.

The other movie they wanted was Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 which I thought would be fine. What I read there was that they visit a brothel in one scene? Is that true and if so is it obvious? I mean why is any of this in a kids movie? I don't get it.

Anyway, I was hoping there could be a thread we could post possibly triggering movies here? Particularly newer ones that might be in theaters, coming out in stores, or even Netflix, etc... but any movie would be OK. I was thinking triggering for the SOs but I guess it could be for the PAs, too. :)

I love this idea! I use "Kids in Mind" and "Common Sense Media" to vet tv shows and movies. Even if I watch them alone nudity is the biggest trigger for me, so in our household, we just don't watch shows or movies with nudity in it. My husband and I usually don't go to movie theaters anymore (also he tends to get panic attacks in movie theaters) and we just wait for the movie to come out unless we are both dying to see it (like the new star wars movie is coming out this December and I know he wants to see that). I do miss going to the movies, so would love a heads up about new movies that are out that way I can go to the theater without overwhelming anxiety.

Yeah I think I am realizing I'm really going to have to do this for ME now not just my kids. Ugh. My favorite has been Common Sense Media, though. I like actually reading the parent reviews on there.

Great idea, @novibe! The first movie that comes to mind is "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For." It feels like soft porn. It's comprised of lots of sex, prostitution, T and A, strippers, and scantily-clad women. Extremely triggering for me and probably anyone who is a PA or SO.

Can you explain what this is....
    is it an app?

i have found that since knowing what stars are triggers. i panic about all movies now. We are currently only watching cartoon movies :/ till his reboot is done ( not including new starwars)

im terrified to go see Star Wars in DEC. we are seeing it in theater.

We bought our Star Wars tickets the day they came out, we've been excited about this movie for years. For some reason, until now, I never thought of it as possibly being a trigger. Ugh. I hate how many happy things his PA has ruined for me/us. And I really hate how it being ruined effects our kids, too.

agreed. there are tons of movies and things that i have terrible anxiety doing now because of the PA. I don't understand why this invisible thing has such a control over us and everything.

kidsinmind and commonsensemedia are websites. Kids in mind is the most descriptive so i use that first and if its not on there i go to parents guide imdb and commonsensemedia

Thank you @TryingToHeal for this thread!
I had no idea websites like this even existed!i knew there were sites that gave you blurbs about dirty stuff but nothing as descriptive as these.!
This is AMAZING! (i was so bad, that my husband simply saying "what movie do you wanna watch?" would make me start balling or get really pissed because i felt so restricted (with all the unknown of scenes, people, etc)) I feel like some of the unknown about movies ( some of the weight of this PA has been lifted)
I forgot about some of the scenes in some of the movies i looked up. And others parts that would never trigger me that i kinda giggled at that they listed on there ( i went hmm ya i could see how that could upset some). THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
Thank you everyone else who posted here too.

This never made me feel comfortable enough because the history can be edited, at least on Netflix.

Glad you have another tool to use now! I know what the anxiety feels like to watch something. The websites do help. I agree with whoever said (Anna?) Kids in Mind is the most thorough. I just found that one yesterday and wow, it mentions everything. It does have an app, too, and I like that.

    I don't have netflix
i simply locked the channels for now.

Ooo im gonna have to look for it :) I am actually super excited.
Like i said some of a burden has been lifted. If we wanted to watch a non cartoon movie. I can look it up and read the parts about it and see if its too much for me or him. and then we can move on. instead of just crying because i dunno how bad a part is and if ill ever be able to watch movies etc.

Yes, that's why I am the only one who knows our Netflix password. I don't think the history can be edited without logging into the account (not on the TV itself).
