Loneliness and the path to porn addiction

Discussion in 'Porn Addiction' started by Mordobarn, Feb 26, 2019.

  1. In the magazine 1843 (by The Economist), February/March 2018, page 100, there is an article about loneliness, "In solitude what happiness?"

The article quotes psychologist Adam Phillips.
Given that loneliness in today's world is an epidemic, I think that this is an interesting and valid point.

This is so correct. At least for me. I got addicted to JOIs and Virtual SexPOVs because I'm lonely and never had any form of intimacy with a woman. That is the only reason I spent so much time on it. It was, sadly, the closet thing to intimacy with a female that I had access to.

  3. I hear you. A JOI has a fake degree of intimacy, where the actor seems to be talking to you. Unfortunately, it's all fake, and there's no actual connection. And, if you knew how the actors laughed about their men behind their backs…

Good luck with your NoFap path.

I agree that loneliness is a huge contributor to PMO addiction. Positive, comforting, wholesome socialization is a very good remedy. A person who is in danger of relapsing should spend as much time with good, welcoming people as they can.

    Agreed.
And thank you! Despite the occasional tumble I'm doing pretty well. I've been on this path for the last 3~4 months and despite not 100% abstaining throughout this entire time, I do my best and I can already feel a pretty decent improvement.
I guess I got relatively lucky I knew where to draw the line before letting this shit go on for a few more years.
