ABSOLUTELY!!! kenzi linked you to the success stories thread. a lot of guys sorta stop checking in as they get better. it's good - they just move on, but it leaves the impression that only addicted guys are here. there are a few angels that stick around to help and offer advice. guys with 500+ days on their counters - thank God they stick around to shine the light in the right direction for those of us still making our way out.

so first off, that was a shitty thing to say IMO. secondly, this addiction murders a guy's self-worth (and horribly the SOs also sometimes) - we know we are doing awful things, we know we need-to/ought-to quit, so we try, in ineffective and uneducated ways that are doomed to failure. if the guy is religious, he will ask God for help millions of times. after "trying" to quit hundreds of times, and realizing that God isn't going to help either, it feels hopeless. that is where your guy was speaking from. it's a lonely and dark place to be. but that was still a bad thing to say to you.

you amaze me all the time

My husband doesn't even need porn anymore. He just brings up all the images burned into his brain that he has looked at over the years and will MO to that. Or will fantasize about real women he has met in real life that he finds attractive. There isn't a way to combat that unless he's willing to do that on his own.

    That's the painful truth.
But if the addict accepts that they need to change, that's the final barrier to freedom.

I read somewhere that this is a common issue amongst all addicts. They fantasize and try to recreate the drug mentally when they're in recovery. This will ultimately leave to relapse.

I guess it's a stupid analogy, but you're going to eat the cake if it's all you think about all day

    Yes, it caused a relapse.
