Aren't we fundamentally dealing with an AROUSAL addiction?

    I've been on nofap for 6 years now and something clicked for me today.

    It has been both my personal experience and the experience of so many other fapstronauts...

    We stumble across nofap, yourbrain on porn.. etc. We realize porn is a problem. We understand it's no healthy and that we need to cut it out.

    But then come the rationalizations:

    • i'm not watching porn, i'm watching erotic movies;
    • i'm not watching porn, i'm reading erotica;
    • i'm not watching porn, i'm watching nude models;
    • i'm not watching porn, i'm watching sexy, partially clothed models;
    • i'm not watching porn, i'm watching hot chicks i know in real life over facebook/instagram;
    • i'm not watching porn, i'm fantasizing about that hot actress or that hot chick i saw/met

    We keep moving the goalposts to reach arousal.

    See what all of these have in common? It's a need to stay sexually aroused. And it almost universally happened to all of us during nofap, our brain.. uh.. finds a way to get it's fix (arousal).

    Also, to reinforce this point... think how most of the relapses happen. It's the arousal we can't control. Reaction to arousal is the driving force. Once we get aroused, we have a very hard time stopping.

    Opinions?

  3. Hmmmm idk if it’s an arousal addiction, you could be right, but I think the reason we get aroused is because our body/brain/mind has become very sensitive to P and P-substitutes. That’s why when we see something triggering, we get so aroused, that’s the addiction make us go for it so strongly.

    I never thought about it until now, but isn’t arousal addiction just an addiction? There isn’t arousal addiction, per se, but rather we are addicted to something that happens to need us to be aroused. That’s my opinion, this is an interesting point so please feel free to tell me where you think I am thinking wrong or not clearly enough.

  4. That arousal is NOT You. Its not the mind. More like a construct that the mind obeys. Like lust being concrete thoughts and arousal being mental intent. Both are thinking and are morally judged on equal ground.

    Since arousal (intent) is not fullyanifested thought that conpletly overtook your mind, you find it is spacious akd some have learned to just live in the arousal. It is a state so they find energy in it. Now it is 100%, Absolutelydamn wrong to apply this state in daily life for the sake of energy acquirement.

  5. I like your direction.

    Question, why do we have this construct? I can see why the mind “obeys” it but where did this construct come from? Is it from the creation of the addiction, in all its aspects, that can literally pierce into all facets of our lives, from every angle. How about people born with “arousal addiction” or people with higher arousal level than others, are they not that arousal which creates their reactions and responses?

    In the last paragraph, are you saying sexual transmutation is wrong?

  6. When youre horny if you check yourself and sort go with the flow, embody it you find lust can energise you. But so does anger. So does envy and jeaulosy. So does hate.

    Transmutation where you engage in the unconscious instincts and then try to control them for 'energy'. Is wrong.

    Instead be clear like a sky with no clouds.

    The highest levels of energy and most focus can be obtained through consciouss awareness and concetration anyway.

  7. What separates animals to humen, really is the degree of CONSCIOUSness. Degree of AWAKEfullness. Same with the operating system in a computer and any program running inside that operating system. The OS lives in 2D while the programs lives in 1D.

  8. It sounds so counterintuitive that it’s right. Just do. No need to guess and think, just perform. But sometimes, on days when you’re tired and drained, we need energy to lift our spirits and give us focus and give us better intent. What do you say about those instances?

  9. Hmmm I’d have to disagree here because both humans and animals can reach enlightenment, it’s just takes a level of thinking and awareness to realize. I think what separates us is our brains, I think human brain is more built to be able to have higher level thinking normally, compared to animals which seems pretty limited at times

  10. Me: It's best to shower right after gym so you don't stink on the public transport to home nor at the party after.
    You: But sometimes, on days when you’re tired and drained, we need freedom to lift our spirits and give us focus and give us better intent. What do you say about those instances?
    Lol...Enlightement is a buddhist term. Its not your term.

  12. Freedom to lift my spirits? Smoke some weed and listen to some good songs or go for a nice walk in nature.

    Terms are just clothes society has chosen to dress these ideas with, the idea/feeling is what is important. I know you know what I meant, you’re being a bigot man, not cool. We all learn from somewhere and you got your information from somewhere too, so don’t go around flaunting information like you are great, that’s disrespectful to yourself and to this kind of learning, please don’t do that. This kind of thinking comes from the respect of nature, so you have to respect in general. We came forth just like nature comes forth, naturally. Get more balanced, everything is in balanced and you would less likely act as erratic because I’m getting the feeling you don’t care or are very short tempered when you should be happy a person is asking questions because it shows they don’t know and are interested and now you can show them the way, you’re just answering questions man, I don’t know why you’re tripping. Until you know by just being and then retelling what you know from yourself, you really shouldn’t act this way, you kind of look hypocritical. Just b happy you’re able to show others and love, that should be it.

  13. I think there is a lot of truth in that for example, i was a drug addict as well as a porn addict but i tried a few different drugs in my life, the aim was to 'get high' or in other words 'arouse my senses to a higher state' whether that was weed, alcohol, cocaine, mushrooms. I had the same relationship with porn, wanted to try it all and always ratchet up the risk/reward which eventually led to more desensitisation and escalation. Basically, im an addict whether it's food, porn or drugs but today i don't use those (except food obviously) so beyond it being 'arousal addiction' i would simplify it to just being 'addiction'

    Id agree with that. Ive found myself pausing videos (non porn) and staring at girls who aren't wearing anything suggestive or aren't like a sex object and just staring for 10 min, aroused the whole time. Plus whenever I would watch porn I'd try not to finish as long as possible and go out of my way to stop looking if I was about to.

    we are not sex addicts because we need sex....we are sex addicts because we cannot cope with stress/boredom/grief and we look for easy way out for satisfaction/feeling good. This is called an 'addiction personality' (p.s. this is not some b.s. I am saying, b I am seeing a therapist to help me out beside noFap and this is what he told me). Because of this addiction personality, people get addicted to sex (porn, escorts, cheating, masturbation), alcohol, gaming, gambling, drugs..... they're all easy way out of boredom/stress and all offer a 'fake' satisfaction/feeling good. What decides your addiction is how readily available what you're addicted to is and what you like from them period....

    in conclusion, it is not sex deprivation or 'addiction to arousal' that makes you addicted to porn/masturbation (or any addiction period).... it is your lack of making yourself busy with healthy habits or fail to cope to stress/boredom/grief is what makes you go to porn and masturbate.
