When I woke up this morning, feeling the usual morning grogginess, I felt a big wave of negativity wash over me. It was short-lived, thankfully, but it made me think about how difficult its been for me to get to a place where I think positively about myself and my life. I know a huge part of regaining your life back from any addiction is to look at life as positively as you can and live it. But it's sooo hard! I'm curious why you guys think it's hard, or if it was even difficult for you in the first place. For me, I did not have the support structure in my childhood necessary for positive self-image and I ended up wasting a lot of years just hating myself. It took a lot of therapy to understand that, yeah, I am a pretty cool guy and people really do like me. But even after all that, I still find it difficult to maintain this healthy self-image and will spiral into depression and self-loathing for a day or two. A huge step from the months at a time I would feel like that, but dammit if it kicking the negative self-talk habit wasn't the hardest thing ever! What do you guys think?

Yes it is hard, I struggle with it myself.

Daily meditation seems to keep me off an emotional rollercoaster, keeps things balanced. I mean I journal, I workout regularly, I eat very healthy, I have great support from my friends, and yet without meditation and my spiritual practice, alongside training martial arts, I cannot reach that positive equilibrium.

Just gotta find what works for you.

My friend its all an Illusion, I remember when I was on my fourth day of nofap to my 10th day it was complete hell, and its your mind tricking itsself but its also the thoughts you have to remember you are not your thoughts, you can have a million thoughts a day but at the end of the day its useless as a fickle is on the end of your nose. you must understand that there is a obstacle and let it be, you must take a approach of acceptance and no aggression or resistance towards what is, or it makes it worse, by that time youll have forgotten about it and be happy when you don't expect it. Dont give up, it will mold you into something greater... we are all suffering for the better your are not alone my friend. rise up.

and the reason I say dont resist because when you question in it and resist it, it creates more branches of illusion.. its like if you put multiple drops of ink in clear water.. it pollutes it more. if you need anything let me know, if your mind gets too filled take a deep breath and hold it in for 4 seconds the release.

WORD! Truer words have never been said. Although I must comment that in the heat of negativity or the discomfort of it, acceptance is super tough. Not impossible but tough. "You are not your thoughts." Hell, yeah, you're not. Too bad more people don't understand this then there would be a lot less need for porn, drugs, alcohol or any other addictive behavior

I like to say you are not you thoughts, your thoughts are what you are becoming.

My best friend told me something fascinating a few weeks ago. He told me that he thinks he has demons attached to him and they put thoughts into his head. Now, I've never detected any evidence of demons from my perspective so I'm tempted to think that it's all in his head, but what's interesting is how much this has helped him in the last few weeks.

Since he is convinced that these negative thoughts come from external demons, when they pop up he says "Haha, nice try, I'm not falling for that shit.". He has found a mechanism that allows him to avoid being controlled by his mind even though he has poor control over his mind. He really does seem to be in a much better place now so hopefully his experience can help you too.

A musician once said "if gods got us then we goin be alright" hahah, Now Im not pushing anything on anyone but, faith is a huge factor, maybe you could till that to your friend ryan, Im sure he'll understand, for my my toughest times in Hell were conquered by faith. There's all sorts of demons, poetically speaking, but thoughts are thoughts, lets not let it absorb us, Ryan I hope your friend makes it through ! one love .

I have a history of letting negativity keep my from my goals. It's very hard to face those deep fears and doubts that fuel my negativity, and I tend to just ignore it and try to live with it. But I am tired of living this way and wasting my time. I want to just smack my fears and doubts upside the head and kick them out of my life.

Postive attitude is a choice, sounds like you cant find the solution for yourself or accept something about yourself. We have ourselves nobody is truely alone. Forgivness and happines starts with you.

We all used to think Negatively most of the time. Its easy to do so.We are grown like that in the world. Its our sole responsibility to change our way of thinking.People can just be guides thats all. First of all it may seems like its difficult to switch from pessimism to optimism but its worth it.Start seeing both sides of a thought.Gradually you will be able to rationalize them. Its how we can begin it.

Most people, in my opinion, don't understand the true meaning of thinking positively. Here's an analogy that I made up:
(I don't know if it actually counts as an analogy)

A girls parents tell her she's pretty, her boyfriend and her friends say so too. She doesn't believe em though. Why?
It's because even though the world validates that she is pretty, she doesn't see it. Maybe she looks at everyone who looks even prettier, and then
she feels bad cause there's always someone better than her.

The reason she can't accept the truth is because she doesn't understand the nature of the truth. And the truth is that there will always be someone more beautiful, and what matters is whats inside you and what gives you real value as a person.

People can't just be told to think positively, because all they know how to see, is the negative. To think positively, you have to learn to see the positive oppurtunity, and when you do you'll realize that it's everywhere whether you've fallen or you're already succeeding.
