Why are we addicted to something that makes us feel so bad?

Does anyone have any insight into this?

I understand the science behind addiction and what makes it addicting. I just want to know why we keep going back to it and continue to use it when we know how awful it’s going to make us feel.

I know that every single time I’m about to relapse, that it’s going to make me feel terrible afterwards, yet there’s this insane urge to just go ahead and do it anyway. You would think that knowing how bad it’s going to make you feel, would deter you from using it. Just feels like sometimes fighting the urge only makes it harder to say no.

This makes me so mad as well, I fear sometimes it will drive me insane.

There's no such thing as a free lunch... after every artificial high there comes a low or a payback.
This is true of all addictive substances

A high always comes with a comedown. Your brain does not care about the comedown, they go away, but it craves the sensations of the peaks, because it feels it's ultimately something good, like real sex. With porn however it's actually useless.
