Why are people weird with sex?

I didn't know where else to put this, but I've had this question on my mind for a while now. And I think it's one we all wonder every now and then.

Why are people weird when it comes to sex? What even creates the desire to have a porn industry to begin with?

With a little pondering, I've come up with two ideas.

1. Unlike the animal kingdom, humans don't have specific mating seasons and our gear if you will is better than quite a few animals. The things of male felines for example are spiky. Plus, humans for the most part don't have to worry about focusing on surviving in the wild and as such our survival instincts aren't as focused on survival.

Basically, I think our willingness to do it year-round, having more comfy parts, and not having to think about survival make the idea of having sex for fun more desirable. And this leads to people wanting to do it without intending to reproduce more and more. Which leads me to my next point.

2. Laziness. People already love doing it and many people don't want to work. Doing it takes no skill and isn't work and this provides a way to make money without actually working. As such, we now have the porn industry and prostitution.

These however are simply my thoughts. What are your thoughts on this question?

Evolutionary biologists agree with portions of your first idea. Intercourse is more comfortable for us than most other mammals, but more to the point, human females conceal their ovulation period. That keeps males in perpetual preparedness to mate, meaning we are always horny and always in competition with other males for the right to mate. If we were like some other mammals, all procreation and incarceration for violent crimes would take place during the same season. As it is we experience permanent sexual tension, and our desire typically outstrips female compliance, by multiple orders of magnitude. Porn is a (terrible) attempt to resolve this problem.

For your second argument, I tend to think it’s low self esteem and trickery, more than laziness or greed, that drives female participation in porn and classic prostitution. There are some women who are young and none too bright who seem to enjoy it… but if you can get them away from their clients and their pimps, get them to share their real opinions, you find most are not mentally healthy, and they tend toward substance abuse to cope. Many are manipulated, even forced into sex work. It’s not a good situation, and addicts like us feed demand and thus participate in that abuse.

Don’t do porn, kids. It’s bad for you, it’s bad for them, it’s bad for everyone but the soulless producers.
