Get away from the PC. Ideally go out, see someone, exercise, anything that will take your mind away from it.
Develop a habit .. like learning an instrument and become passionate for it. Start doing it when you will ..
When urges hit me, I get busy doing something else to get my mind offa my dende! (Cold showers too if needed, tho I usually invent reasons to avoid them as they hurt.) P.S. I also have a long playlist of videos I love to watch again and again during times when I need a boost... I will link only some of them here.... (SPOILER ALERT: SOME SHIRTLESS ATHLETES)
I literally sat down and wrote a list of all the things I would do instead of relapsing when I get an urge. The list caters to all scenarios where I could relapse. I would highly recommend writing a list for your lifestyle. I’ll give mine as an example. The biggest problem I’ve encountered is forgetting that the urge will pass, because it always does. Especially if you take action. Here’s my list -go on a walk -take a cold shower -go to the climbing gym -go grocery shopping or run errands -go to school or a library and study -go take a hike in nature -prep food for tomorrow or organize my pantry -clean out my car -clean my room/bathroom -go hang out with my roommates -get in my car and drive around listening to music -turn off my phone and put it in my closet or outside of my room. -go to sleep (if it’s at night) -meditate -do push-ups I would also recommend combining these things. For example, turning off your phone and hiding it before you meditate or do push-ups. Or taking a cold shower before you go for a walk or go to sleep.
twistedshadows23 It's TIME to STOPPP ashishind2505 bluemax4 Dekk MuscularSherlockHolmes Thanks guys. Using your methods, how long can you deter your urges? I mean I am interested in permanent/long term solution to urges. If you distract the brain, urges are still there, they will come back stronger and stronger.
I try do anything but look at phone or computer. I say 'try' because oftentimes I'm just so habitual with my phone, i find it difficult to put down, even during the extreme arroused periods.
the urges will go away the longer you stay away from porn. The only thing that I have found that really helps the urges go away is meditation. That is because you are not distracting your brain, you are fully processing the urge. If you are able to meditate through an urge, and watch it dissipate, you will be able to withstand any urge the same way.
But the whole point of meditating through an urge is to stare it straight in the face and accept it. You’re not wishing the urge away or trying to force it to go away. Look up acceptance commitment therapy or read the book the subtle art of not giving a fuck if you wanna know more about what I’m talking about. Or look up Alan Watts on YouTube
I watch YouTube videos. If that doesn't work and I'm home I get to cleaning until nothing is left unclean. If that doesn't work I pray. I speak that devil out, which usually works. Some for instances it hasn't and I try not to beat myself up too badly. It happens. I just try to do better next time
Try this . It helps . Let us know if it works for anyone . It does for me apart from the facts that i have to do it repeatedly .
Get out of the house FAST and treat yourself to something you like. I go to an outdoor cafe and treat myself to a coffee and a cigarette.
I think lately what I've done (but it gets easier as time passes, but need to remain cautious at all times), is simply acknowledge that I am having urges, and try to identify why (usually because I am stressed out), and try to relax and let the urges pass. If you look at your behaviour with curiosity and from the "outside" it helps not to give in to temptation. Usually when I have urges, I feel anxious and stressed out (increased heart bit, unrest, nervous). I don't even feel aroused. That's when I know this is just the addiction and I cannot give in.
