It's something I have heard more and more recently when it comes to overcoming porn addiction you need to change your life. But what does this exactly mean?
For some people, addiction is an escape. An escape from thoughts, feelings, situations, people, relationships etc. For some people, when they stop pmo (or another addiction), they are cutting off the escape route. And now all the stuff they have been running away from is confronting them. Some addicts will deny this and say that they are just hooked on a particular addiction and everything else in life is a walk in the park. Eventually, many of those people, after a period of abstaining, will come to realize they were in denial. And that their way of being in the world needs reform. For those that do not work on changing their lives, they may find themselves going back to the addiction or picking up a new one. And the cycle repeats itself. You might be a part of the ‘some people’ group and you might not. Recovery is a very personal journey. Other people may have a different interpretation than mine. That’s okay too. Good luck finding your way.
It means changing the way you live your life so that it no longer has a need for an addiction. You want to be aiming for a life you enjoy instead of a life you don’t.
