I fell into a remake of the 1994 game Outpost. This remake isn't even complete and lost a lot of time to it Saturday evening and Sunday. Last night I stayed up until 2:30 and was up a few hours later. When I got home for breakfast I went and played it again for a couple hours.

If I wanted to build a house I see it taking me a lifetime to learn how to do so.

Playing this game I can potentially build a colony on another planet in the span of a day or two. It really numbs my mind. Before I know it hours have passed. I am reminded of my time browsing porn. Clicking, clicking, and clicking to the next.

The game is gone from the computer now, it's time to start fresh. When I get the urge I'll come here to post.

The reality is, sooner or later each of us has to move forward and leave the old ways behind so it makes sense this thread will help others more than you in the long run. :)

    MICRO UPDATE:

'Sup bros. Keeping up with this. Aside from that time I played some SF everything is going fine. Sometimes I get the desire to go and play something but it is a remnant of old gaming times when I actually felt entertained or amazed by it. As I'm able to discern that, I'm fine and I don't need to put willpower into it.

Ten days from now I will be over the three month mark. I don't expect to get back to gaming, what I want to do is to move on into another detox. Call it social media, call it the 90 days off M that I never got to do, call it to stop using youtube. Once Octobe is over I'll write down what changed or happened in this three months, what went wrong and what went right, and then move on to the next habit making/replacement. I'ts good to be here, because one or two years ago I didn't felt like I could mantain a desicion for so long. I hope to ge better at the things those habits make harder to do.

    So, see you soon.

ALSO: Should then I change the thread title to "Detoxes" or something alike?...

I say leave it as is. Wise people will be able to discern that this thread has value for more than just detoxing from video games. Having "Video Game" in the title may draw people who wouldn't bother entering a generic detox thread.

I've only reached 45. I don't really think numbers matter but I can tell that abstaining makes me good and If I start doing it without limit it spirals.

Bro's I want to stick my mind into runescape or some shit alike the whole Sunday, lol. Hasn't happened in the whole detox until now.
I'm bored and kind of frustrated and don't feel like doing anything constructive.

Just came in to write it down.

    [- 3 MONTH VIDEOGAME DETOX COMPLETED. -]
Hi people. Since I started this videogame detox on july 29, today is the 3rd month of the detox, so I'm happy to post that I completed it : ).
There's two exceptions, because in two oportunities I played some SF 3rd strike on my own, but these were isolated and I had a great and short time. Also I won't be a purist about it, I sticked to the objective anyway.
    RESULTS:
THE CHANGES I WANTED TO SEE WHEN I STARTED (as written in the first post):
1- Regain my excitement for working, drawing and comic making.
Well, at first my job really started to feel more appealing. That faded quickly but I can tell right now that It feels a lot less like a burden. Other changes on my mindset have to be done to get where I want. Sometimes I started to want to draw more, but not that much. Right now it's kind of the same. I think motivation for that comes for another place. However leaving vg's did MADE ME MORE CREATIVE and LESS MENTALLY LAZY. I started deconstructing objectives and activities better (this is a copy from a comment I readed here or on another site but being aware of it also may have helped).
Doing normal shit like washing dishes, clothes and basic chores became easier and began to feel less like chores and more like WHAT IS TO BE DONE.

2- See sports as even more appealing.
This happened. I won't say it's the best thing ever but I certainly went through little time gaps in which I was pumped up about doing physical exercise, at least motivated to do so.
3- Get excited about "leveling up", "conquering", "doing quests".
Kind of, as the ones above. But the act of leaving behind something I didn't actually wanted to do and to commit to doing better things did helped or pushed me to want to go out more, to date more, and to be MORE SOCIAL. I have less garbage on my mind and play videogames only locally and socially. (Also, sometimes I play Street Fighter with a pal and I'm like more loose about it, I play two times better and kick his ass).

4- To get a high from life again, basically. To stop being scared about everything and seek comfort in escapism.

I wouldn't say I got HIGH. But I am CERTAINLY more connected to reality (I also got my phone stolen, and that's awesome). I still search for null distraction but I am AWARE of it, and of when I don't like it.

So, that's about what I wrote in the beginning. But there's another key point:
The most important is that I stopped doing compulsive time-wasting on it. Meditation was the killer this last year of my life. I realize more and more how much I need to reflect upon other people, how much do I need SILENCE, to be ALONE, and to have time and space to GET MY SHIT TOGETHER and to CORRECT what I do with my life. Having your mind busy with bullshit %99 of the time is an abuse and it's sad.
It's another step towards knowing myself.

Altogether I'm happy that I got to do it. I think it has a positive impact on my self esteem too. I won't leave videogames apart from my life and I don't want to demonize or escape from them. It's not about the thing, but my relationship to it. And that's what I aim to change in this and other areas of my life.

That said, I'm planning to stick to another rule the next three months. I made a list of things and thought that it would be good to make a plan of one year to get my shit even more together.

It all feels like it's some maniac, over-controlling scheme but my life was turned upside down two years ago and maybe being a little systematic about it will help.

I don't want to get stiff to it, but I do want to nurture good fruits from me. I also moved from my parent's house last week and that will change things.

I will probably keep posting here wth further challenges, or make another post, I don't know. Some user said it would be cool to do it here. It may be.

Thank you all who posted, liked and supported the detox!. I hope the post helped you to clear something you didn't want either.
I consider the challenge over, but I will be careful toward gaming. I think I'll just do it if I feel like I ACTUALLY really want to do it and not as a substitute for something else.

I'll come over to write further if I forgot something, I don't want to write anymore.

So, hey. I commited into going the full 90 next without M. My biggest ordeal so far.

I don't think I'll post much the following days, it will just be grinding and constructing new things.

Many changes happening in my life, I guess.
Haven't touched videogames either. Sometimes social media captures much of my attention but I won't make that a big issue now.

Woah, dudes. Something like a month in I think. My social life is thriving, I feel more creative, these two last days I just wanted to sit and draw again out of the blue. Some little blows of weed leaves smokes are doing magic with me also.

    Staying strong.

    Hello friends.
I've stayed two months off masturbation and all that's close to it. This March I'll be two years off porn and that makes me happy.

I'm hanging out with a girl that accepts that and she's helping much.
After January I will have beaten the 90's at last! After many years.
