Thinking of Getting Covenant Eyes

For Fapstronauts of the Catholic Christian Faith

    Hi Everyone!

Like the subject line says, I am thinking of getting covenant eyes. Has anyone on here gotten covenant eyes or had any success with it?

I feel like I am at the point where I need that filter and accountability from an outside source. It is like any other addiction I think. If it were alcohol, you would get rid of any alcohol in your house. Since it is porn and masturbation, I need to get rid of my access to the porn at least.

Another question, has anyone come out about their addiction to their family/loved ones?Because of some medical issues I had a few years ago, I am still living at home with my parents. I am debating on telling them or looking for another person to be my accountability person with that filtering service.

Thanks in advance for any input!

    Your's in Christ,

knighterrant, it's good that you are looking at ways to tackle the source of your temptations. This is on the list of my rules for nofap, just posted. I'm sure it is a very common cause of the addiction we have. So yes I would support what you are proposing with the caveat that any protection software like that is only a strong as you let it be. In my case I use my ISP's content filter service but due to my addiction I know what the password is for disabling it, so it is almost useless. So if you are going to commit to CE ( I cannot vouch for the software - only had a look at their website and it seems to offer the right solution) make sure you have the courage to have give someone else the power to install and control it for you, across all devices. Don't waste your money but leaving yourself with the capability to turn it off.
As to sharing, yes good idea and makes your commitment more powerful. I failed to enrol the support of my partner/wife and I put that down as one of the reasons why my two previous attempts to give up PMO failed in the end. As to whether your parents are best choice only you know what their reaction might be. An accountability partner outside the family might be a safer option, then share with your parents when you need their support but you can already demonstrate your own progress.
    Hope that's useful.

Yes you are on the path to winning if you are looking at getting Covenanteyes and telling someone. I have had Covenanteyes for almost a year and can vouch for them full heartedly. I would recommend it to everyone, but as the previous commit above so wisely points out it is only as strong as you make it. The filters will pick up any porn I have ever tried to watch and most of the time will block you even getting to the site. But if you know the password and can change settings (once downloaded it is hard to shut off Covenant eyes completely) it will not work for you. The key is getting an accountability partner and a guardian. This way if you do change the setting they will get a notification through email. And the embarrassment of a friend or family member getting an email that shows the porn video you were trying to view is powerful stopper. I would absolutely recommend this to you. Please keep in mind I myself have not been brave enough to get a Guardian for my account, but you have given me new courage. Thank you! Far as telling your parents I like the advice of the other commenter. If you don't have anyone else other than your family though go with them. Also, consider asking your priest if he would be willing to be your accountability partner for a time. You can't win this battle alone period. You can win it with allies though! Keep up the fight! Declare War on Porn Every Day!
    Godspeed,
    Lancelot

@knighterrant are you still active brother? Did you ever try this out? If so what are your thoughts on it? Has it helped?

    Hey man!

Sorry I'm just now seeing this. It works, but like SimonL66 stated, you need to give your uninstall privileges to someone else. It may seem like you can get through this with pure willpower and adding more hurdles to get to porn might seem like enough but it really is like any other addiction. When your body starts to crave that dopamine or whatever, it will do whatever it can to get it.

Agree. Covenant Eyes is a great porn blocker. But if someone else doesn’t have the uninstall privileges then it’s worthless.
