    Hey guys,

I came across this youtube video of Philip Zimbardo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uh3eksLiRXI&list=UU7IcJI8PUf5Z3zKxnZvTBog Zimbardo is the infamous guy who lead the Stanford Prison experiment, so much for his credibility. He talks about each and every one of us having a time type, future oriented, present oriented and future oriented. Now being especially interesting for us as a community which tries to get away from addictive behavior is the present oriented person, who can't delay gratification. Is that what is called an "addictive personality"?

In the video Zimbardo makes an experiment with little kids, where he gives them marschmallows on a plate and tells them, if they are able to wait, they will get two marschmallows. Now here is where the kids start to differ, some are able to wait, some not. Especially interesting is the kid at 7:10, who is absolutely unable to wait for the greater gratification later.

I thought the community might find this interesting.

I know this as deferred gratification. Not sure though if it crosses over with addiction or not. For example I'm not hoping to be able to wait longer for porn to enjoy it more - I don't want to enjoy it at all! As regards personality type I think addicts might tend to the obsessive / compulsive end of the spectrum. And for that I don't think there's a cure...
