    I've watched a good and eye opening documentary about the root of internet addiction. I could relate to all of the contents in this documentary. If you haven't watched it you can find it on Netflix. This documentary mainly focused on the internet addiction but I want to share this documentary to this community because I have seen so many folks here have instagram, FB, Reddit, Tumblr, webcam addiction and whatnot.

    The point is those big companies like Facebook, Google and even Mindgeek Pornhub try to make their products as addictive as possible by hijacking our brain working system.
    Let's have a discussion here.

    1. Google is a big company mainly dominating search engine market but under the hood they are not search engine company. They are ADVERTISEMENT company whose main objective is to monetize your attention. Yes your attention is valuable because the more you stay on their platforms the more they will get ads revenue. They don't care if you get addicted to their products. For them their priority is your attention and data.
    2. Facebook sells and auction your data. Facebook is free but you pay with your data and time because You are the product. You can say that facebook is a monstrous surveilance engine whose main goal is to put its nose on your business every second every day. (using ads, trackers, cookies, browser fingerprinting etc). If you use Instagram and whatsapp your data is on the mercy of Mark Zuckerberg because they are owned by Facebook as parent company.
    3. Pornhub is not free (because you pay them with your time and soul). They try to lure your brain into wanting more and more of those kinky videos because they know that by giving you free porn videos your brain will get desensitized and you will need more extreme porn. And if that happens they will offer you paid services such as paid videos, webcams chat, etc.
    4. Even your browser is not as free as you think. Google Chrome is the most popular browser in the market. It also knows your browsing history even after you purge your data because Chrome is owned by Google. Google offers chrome for free in exchange of your browsing data. They even know where you live. For this reason I don't use Google products. I opted in for Duckduckgo for search engine and firefox as browser. read more here
    5. "Remember if it is free, you are the product" This quote from The Social Dilemma has opened my eyes and I began to rethink everything I do online is not as free and private as I thought it was.
    Why do I post this here? because this thing is also important for us nofappers. Don't let Porn posion your mind. They are your enemy. They are free because they know you will get addicted and become their possible customer for life.

    I have deleted all of my social media even before this documentary came out to public because I knew something was up with those companies with their Free products. I knew all about this from Edward Snowden Videos.

    Great documentary, I did the same thing. Deleted allot of apps after watching this. I've greatly reduced the amount of time online because of porn initially but now because I'm starting to see the big picture of just how unhealthy it is.

    I've watched the documentary and started taking steps in order to prioritize and use apps and services that value your privacy, as well as deleting and/or reducing usage of social media. Let me share my results so far.
    - Facebook: still use Facebook for professional use, since their groups it's where i get most of my clients from. Stopped posting personal stuff altogether. Downside : i use Facebook as a backup for my personal Photos so that's going to be complicated to deal with;
    - Instagram: maintaned my professional account, not really using it but just in case;
    - Pinterest: deleted;
    - Twitter: professional only, mostly so my wife can share whatever shiny new thing;
    - Youtube: still trying not to use it with my account, transitioning to invidious and or logged out usage;
    - Gmail: transitioning to disroot, so far i cannot recommend it - not stable enough - will try Protonmail;
    - Dropbox/One Drive/ Google Photos - partly transitioned to cryptpad and sync ;
    - Google News: replaced for CommaFeed and signed up for a bunch of different newssites RSS;

    Major problem as i mentioned are my private photos, i like having an online backup so that's going to be a challenge.
