The good and the bad from NOFAP

Discussion in 'Porn-Induced Sexual Dysfunctions' started by Deleted Account, Dec 4, 2020.

  1. I learned about the NOFAP community six years ago. I'm currently 39 years old. I didn't grow up with the Internet. However, I got hooked on PMO as an adult 15 years ago. I remember that I was 24 years old when I got hooked on PMO.

I've done several restarts since then. The last reboot lasted 5 months. The previous restarts have been shorter.

In my personal opinion, I'm going to list the good and bad things about NOFAP.

    The good thing about NOFAP:

    1. Promotes good health and good habits such as sport, exercise and eating well It also promotes moderation with respect to everything that has to do with sex.

    2. It promotes social interaction in a world like today's that is so enslaved to technology.

    3. It respects women and promotes respect for them.

    4. NOFAP is very inclusive because all kinds of people can be found here: gays, lesbians, heterosexuals, men, women, blacks, whites, Asians, conservatives, liberals, married, single, religious and atheists.

    5. People on this website treat each other with respect, solidarity and friendship. I have never found a bad comment here from the people who are part of this community.

    The bad things about NOFAP:

    1. There is no point in sharing experiences regarding masturbation and the use of porn because all organisms are different. Therefore, you can't compare yourself to others. Every experience with sex is unique. No two people are the same.

    2. People here unearthed myths that were already buried around masturbation.

    3. The moralistic people are using this website to promote puritanism and their negative ideas about sex and masturbation.

    4. Many people here have sexual problems that have little to do with pornography and masturbation. They are usually underlying problems that are present before they become addicted to pornography

    5. This website may lend itself to sowing hypochondria in people and paranoia regarding their erectile health or their use of masturbation.

    6. NOFAP is based on abstinence and abstinence is not good for the body after a certain number of months. That is why most non-fappers complain of low libido and weaker erections after many months or years of being on NOFAP.

    7. This website is not led by sexual health professionals. Its moderators and founders are not doctors, sexologists, or psychotherapists, therefore they cannot provide real support.

    8. This website cannot serve in many cases as an aid to quitting porn and masturbation because the people here only share experiences with each other. No one can really help anyone here because we are all blind trying to guide other blind people. We are all in the same boat of addiction.

    9. It seems to me that the name of the website is wrong because the purpose of this website should be to keep people away from pornography and not from masturbation. Masturbation and pornography are two very different things. Masturbation and pornography are not synonymous. Although they can be done together, they are not the same. Therefore, I propose that this website be called : not using porn, or PORNOGRAPHY HARMS instead of NOFAP.

    However:

The idea is not to accept these bad points as a reason to leave the site. It is not about that. It's about taking into account these weak points of the NOFAP community so that in the future its administrators and moderators work on them to improve this place and make NOFAP a better experience for people.

Lol, honestly it seems to me that you are brainwashed by feminism a little too much. "Respect for women", really? Only 5 good points, some of which are really questionable. And a whole 9 bad points, most of which are bs.
Nope, most people have the same physiology. While there are individual differences, they aren't as significant as you make them be. Sex is just a biological process, addiction is just a state of your brain.
We live in the 21st century, the vast majority of scientific facts openly available to anyone. You don't need to have a degree to be able to find studies by the actual sexologists. So yeah, people here can provide real support. Moreover, they can share a personal experience which could be more useful than scientific research because the science of sex isn't developed enough yet.

Many people here already quit porn for good, how are they in "the same boat of addiction"? If you want to quit smoking then you'd better listen to those who already did rather than to those who never smoked in the first place.

You can use porn with your GF or wife without any harm, it could be an interesting and pleasant experience. Masturbation IS a real problem, with or without porn, though in the latter case things got worse.

  3. Why ?

  4. Explain this to me better. I'm interested to know about this.

Could it be that what really hurts is masturbation ?

NoFap is great for finding people with much more specific porn-related issues (fetishes, prone masturbation, severe PIED, etc.) to get advice and to see that there is a light at the end of a tunnel. Having someone tell you firsthand that you can recover from your specific circumstances is very uplifting and encouraging.

However, there is little moderation and virtually no experts on this site, leading people down crazy rabbit holes of anecdotes, theories, and even conspiratorial ideas. The people addicted to PMO have often been to the lowest lows of modern life and have had the worst interactions with people, and carry the worst beliefs about people, themselves, and life.

NoFap is great if you have a specific issue or question and can't find it somewhere on the internet or you just need some motivation.

If you're trying to get the facts about PMO addiction, other hard evidence, and plans for healing, the website Your Brain On Porn is definitely superior. This is their front page https://www.yourbrainonporn.com/overview/

Everything you ever need to know about porn and addiction is on that site. It's all curated by leading porn addiction professionals, from the articles to the FAQ, studies, and index of personal stories. I get all my info from there, and you should as well.

  6. Finally I read something sensible in these forums hahaha.

    Good for that.

  7. Although this has never happened to me, you are right. This does happen to others. It is not my case, but you are right.

  8. I have known this website for 6 years. I met it in 2014. It is a good site. I don't share some of Gary Wilson's ideas, but let's just say that you can't ask a man like him (Gary has 65 years old more or less) to be more liberal in accepting some things about sex life today.

However, in general the site is good. I've read everything on the website. Unfortunately rationalization and theory is not enough to give up an addiction.

Let's see how we do in 2021 with this vice. The idea this time is to leave PMO abandonment forever.

These days that I have returned to the PMO I realized that pornography is already a bit boring. It is an industry that has become very impoverished. It's already very routine in its presentations.
