Spotify flashing suggestive ads

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by cyberman, Feb 6, 2024.

  1. Figured I would give a tip to my fellow community members, be careful with Spotify. It was 4:30 am and I was headed to the gym to hit a chest workout while casually driving in my car. I was listening to a cyber security related podcast and as I glance at my iPhone an extremely suggestive ad flashed me but I closed the ad immediately, this honestly just surprised me. I expect this kind of degeneracy from sites like Instagram or Twitter but not Spotify. Luckily, I was away from the area where I usually act out because images like that can derail my reboot quickly if I am suffering from decision fatigue. Keep in mind, I only listen to tech and addiction recovery related podcasts and this still happened. Figured I would warn you all, and rant a little bit.

I just want to remind you of this, friend:
When you "closed the ad immediately", you did not only make your reboot easier by eliminating a cue; you also strengthened your mind and actively supported the rewiring proccess which takes place during a reboot from addiction. The act of immediately turning your other cheek to these inviting cues, is a single victory in of itself, and should make you, dare I say, a little bit proud of yourself.

    Just a reminder.

It is everywhere my friend, everywhere. I deleted my Spotify account and downloaded all the playlist that I like to my dumbphone. My dumbphone has bluetooth so it's the same as my iPhone in the context of listening to music.

    I stay away from Spotify.
Especially after they signed Joe Rogan.
I give at least a partial credit to Joe Rogan for ruining my young adult brain many years ago.

I don't know if this is the right place to expound my views on the JRE.
But when I was younger, his liberal use of drugs and alcohol, his other world views affected my world views in ways that I have later come to regret. JR was someone that I looked up to for a long time in my twenties and early 30s. Looking back, I do not agree with most of his views now.
