Scheduled Downtime next Friday - We're changing forum softwares! BIG CHANGE

NoFap will be going offline for 4 hours at 8:00 pm EST on Friday (March 27, 2015)!​

During this time we will be upgrading the servers and switching the forum software from vBulletin to xenForo.

For time conversions, this will be occurring between 12:00 AM - 4:00 AM GMT (middle of the night between Friday and Saturday).

This downtime will not be affecting the Emergency Panic Button server - so if you are experiencing duress during this period, this tool might be useful. Also you can always post on NoFap's subreddit.

Server Instability
We had many issues on March 17th resulting in unexpected downtime. Everybody (including myself) was locked out of NoFap due to 502 server errors. The main reason this happened is because there is too much traffic for our current server to handle. During the scheduled downtime I'll be upgrading the servers again, and making some configuration tweaks.

Forum Software Upgrade
I've been thinking about this for over a year. NoFap is growing rapidly and we're using outdated software to run the forum. To put it bluntly, vBulletin is dying. It used to be awesome, but now more and more people are choosing other forum softwares because the failures of vBulletin versions 4 and 5.

xenForo will be more modern, offer a better experience, be more secure from a security standpoint, offer greater customizability for special features, and just be all-around more awesome. It will be a big change, but I think over time we won't be looking back. This decision was made with all users' best interest in mind.

Will my old login information change?
Your old NoFap login information should work. Usernames, passwords, and associated email address should stay the same. However, if you are having trouble logging in after the change occurs, use the "Forgot my Password" option to reset it (this really shouldn't be necessary though).

Will I lose my day counter?
No, forum signatures are being imported into the new software. However, the process of updating / adding / deleting counters will change slightly with the new forum software. We are alerting the PMO-counter team about this upcoming change and will try to update the instructions accordingly.

Will the groups transfer over?
Yes. Groups are not a standard feature with xenForo, but we are using a 3rd party groups plugin and will be importing all of our groups from here over to the new software as well.

What other changes are coming to NoFap?
A ton of awesome stuff. A better user experience, live chat features, and other features based on your suggestions.

All posts, private messages, journals, threads, etc will be imported into the new software. I made sure of this, I would never be okay with so many people losing their posts they put so much effort into.

 

NoFap takes up most of my time these days, and I am happy and content with that. Going to be upping the effort because I know NoFap can change so many lives around the world. Thanks for the thank you!

 

Ohhh, good idea. OK based on a Google search, I think that should be 12:00 AM - 04:00 AM GMT (middle of the night between Friday and Saturday). I'll update the original post to include this info.
