Do you guys think it's possible? I think yes. For God nothing is impossible right. It's like the story of David and Goliath, the porn industry is the Goliath and we the fapstronauts are David. We may be small but when we work together and combine all our strength, we can put that porn industry down, we can put an end to this evil. How? I guess through education. If you have kids, educate them as early as possible about sex, educate them about the dangers of porn and masturbation, how it has already ruined a lot of people's lives. In this way we can hope one day for a pornless society. Sure we don't want our kids to be in the same place where we are now, the pain, the suffering, the guilt, the shame of being a PMO addict. In this way we can hope for a brighter future for the next generation without this vice, without this problem.

Sadly I don't see it happening. Literally what was considered porn a decade ago now is mainstream and everywhere. The rise against porn keeps getting clotheslined by the assertion that it's just sex and sex is natural or the human body is meant to be appreciated.....blah blah blah BS. Unfortunately it's made exponentially worse by the raw, rabid , and readily available Internet content that no one is immune from.

I'm hoping that we see a shift in the public perception of porn similar to what we saw with smoking in the 1960s. obviously people still smoke cause 1) It feels good and 2) it's goddam addictive son -- see the pattern here? but yeah, that's really the only hope

Well I live in the Philippines, and I'm quite lucky at least I consider myself, that porn industry doesn't exist here except for some sex-related crimes. It's seen here as something a taboo and I don't see it changing anytime soon cuz we're a Christian country with high regard for morals.

I'm not saying it's a bad thought, but I think it's kind of naive to think that's possible and truth be told, I think living in a society with that kind of restriction would be kind of scary.

I get the premise: porn can be addictive and cause problems for many people, and it's productive uses are limited. Hence, we might be better off without it. However, a lot of things fit that description: alcohol, drugs, even stuff like tv and social media. That being said, not everyone views these things as evil or even bad.

Hence, I think opting not to partake has to be of one's own moral conviction or prudent purpose. Having someone else impose their values on the entire society seems like a pretty extreme violation of personal choice and autonomy. This is especially true when it comes to porn since people have different views on what makes porn and they can make it and distribute it themselves. Where would the line be drawn as to what can't be done? A video a wife makes for her husband?

The suggestion you made of education perhaps sounds less Orwellian, but I wouldn't advocate for having parents impose their values on children. That's not education; it's indoctrination. If you want to education your kids, tell them about your struggles and some of the dangers of porn you perceive, but your view isn't universal and once they are out on their own, they will find other views, may do more exploring themselves, and will need to make their own decisions.

Keep in mind there are people who use porn and do not have a problem. If it's against your own moral convictions, I'm not telling you those convictions are wrong, but they are personal and not everyone holds them. Imposing your values on others doesn't work. Think of Prohibition or rebellious teenagers. If you want to be an advocate against pornography, speak out and tell your story, but not everyone will subscribe to it.

that's an interesting point, but the sensitization and super stimulation that porn causes are based on much more primitive and biological foundations, so I'm not sure that's a fair analogy since the brain doesn't have the same evolutionary binge mechanisms with the other addictive vices you mentioned. I don't think personal views on the matter are particularly relevant when dealing with something as consistently pernicious as porn, especially given the lack of public awareness on the matter. just my $.02

That's where the role of government takes place, now if everything is legal what kind of world will we have? It's more scary right. Like let's legalize murder I'll kill you and it's OK?

I'm not saying the government determines what is moral. There are laws and ethics, which determine what is acceptable as a society, and there is morality, which is personal. Morality is very subjective and complicated, so law and ethics give us all common ground. (That way, if someone was twisted and thought murder was okay, we'd have a societal standard it's not.) Not everyone finds porn to be immoral. I respect your view if you do, but you can't impose that view on others.

Different people have different perspectives on what the role of government should be, so maybe you think this is fine, but a government that completely and effectively makes pornography illegal would be wildly authoritarian. All it takes to make porn is a body and a camera, which most people have easy access to. Whether it's illegal or not, people will want it and some people enjoy producing it. Hence, it might be easy to shut down big companies, but to eliminate all sources and punish all consumers would involve a ton of surveillance. I know you don't like pornography, but regulating it to that extreme is stuff of dystopian novels.

All you'd have to do is create laws that make mass consumption impossible. Don't criminalize it - just ban it. Block the websites and don't let stores sell it and porn consumption would drop exponentially. If you had to go to some shady porn dealer to get some low quality ripped DVD, the large majority of people on this website wouldn't have a problem. I imagine there are ways to work around the website block - but once again - it's the simple ease and access to porn that makes it so bad.

I think the state of the internet and pornography in this country is highly immoral and detrimental to society. I've got young kids and I'm going to have to be vigilant to even have a chance for them not to be sexually warped by the time they're adults. I read through some threads in the addiction section and get worried. I think it should be banned. I simply don't understand why prostitution would be illegal and porn not. It makes no sense at all. So if you film the act of prostitution it's legal?

Banning porn is an utopian theory. You can't ban it, you can't stop it.
Somebody posted a map of where porn is legal and where not illegal? Do you think that stands?
    Fuck no!
I live in a country where drugs are illegal. Do you think there is not drugs here?
On the contrary, they are everywhere. You shut down a gang, somebody will take it's place.
Same goes with tobacco, porn you name it!
If there is a camera somewhere and two willing people or just one, there will be porn.
Let's not kid ourselves, porn has existed for centuries and will in the future.

It's economy, dear kids, where there is demand there shall be supply, end of story.

    Porn will never go away.

However being an ex-'connoisseur' I will say porn has become more debased and downright sloppy if you can believe that compared to earlier years.

A pornless society is a wonderful idea but I'm afraid the most we can hope to see is less degrading content.

  20. No fockin chance. Porn and sexual content are everywhere. The general battle is lost. We can only win it within ourselves. At least this. We have to. We don't have other option.
