Having read a lot of comments on this site its clear that society needs a step change in its thinking about porniraphic material. When I grew up porn was sordid and dirty, it was kept hidden and had connotations of being wrong. These days its everywhere and generally accepted, so there is no barrier to its proliferation.

Theres a long running thread about friends not taking porn addiction seriously, and mostly people simply don't see the harm in it.

I want to propose society starting to introduce the concept of a "Porn Neutered Male". I see it as porn has deprived me of my masculinity, and i've been totally unaware. Rather than trying to convince people there is a negative side to porn, using the phrase "Porn Neutered Male" simply associates a loss of masculinity with porn use, and how many men want to think of themselves as neutered?

The fight is bigger than just us, kids are growing up with a huge disadvantage, as it has already been shown that someone like me who grew up without high speed internet bounces back much faster than those who have.

This idea of a "porn neutered male" has already been conceptualised in Japan. The porn industry in Japan is huge (although not as big as the USA) and porn has infiltrated its way into general life. Many guys are being called "herbivores" as they have no desire to go out, interact with girls (or boys), as they'd rather stay at home and watch porn instead.

The problem is that these terms haven't entered the mainstream. Porn is still considered very much a taboo by the second generation and older, so porn doesn't reach the surface of everyday discussion or on the news very often. Yet by the first generation, porn has become so mainstream it's practically part of our everyday lives.

We definitely need to start talking about it more, because the problem of PMO is getting worse by the day, especially as porn becomes increasingly more normal in society. I almost feel obliged to talk about it, however I'd prefer to have fully reset and feel in control of my sexuality and masculinity before I go blabbing to people about the effects of porn.

I wish governments would be more alert in preventing PMO addiction, as they have the power to block pornographic websites. They are cracking down on child-pornography but regular porn doesn't seem to register as being a problem.

    (all in my opinion)
