Personal Introduction

    Hi there community,

    I am just starting on this forum just exactly as the welcome PM suggests, so... hello! For private concerns I will not show my name and other personal details, but you can know that I am from South America (Venezuela) and that I study clinical psychology. I have a really good life in general terms: academic success, awesome family, house, etc... (except for my country being in crisis), but unfortunately, the same does not apply to my sexual life, which is characterized by a wrong image of women and by the occasional consumption of pornography (soft porn).

    Recently, my girlfriend found some porn in the history of my chrome browser and almost broke up with me, then we went to couple therapy with our psychotherapist and we had some suggestions and individual/joint tasks to do.

    The biggest task is to keep myself away from porn and masturbation for a considerable amount of time, while we create a different way to experience the sexual intercourse. I am just allowed to have an orgasm during the latter. By the way, the hard thing is that my porn consumption is heavily linked with emotional/affective needs and with a lack of self-emotional control (I usually recur to porn when I feel really stressed). I really love my girlfriend, but sometimes I ask myself if I need to be alone prior to any major change in my love relationships.

    I have had like 3 relapses since the last therapy session (June 27) and I don't know what else need to happen in my life in order to start again. My current idea is based on the replacement of the wrong behavior for a healthy one as soon as there's a trigger in the environment, but you will tell me what could fit better. I am perfectly conscious of the limited influence a forum can have over this issues, but I believe in community support so I thought this could be a good place to start.

    You have expertise I don't, but replacing healthy stuff with bad stuff sounds right to me. I hope this site helps you. It helps me.

    Yes, that's what I thought. Then I read some good stuff about the CBT and ACT approaches and I concluded that this is the best way to start changing for real. Thanks for your post Septimus, all of the best in your progress.

    I relapsed yesterday night watching P. This happened due to an emotional incontinence due to several frustrations over the day, and of course, self-irresponsibility. It is certainly a lack of self commitment what leads us to this endings, but fortunately, the loss conduce to a process of insight, and a very powerful one.

    I will definitely make a psy research about masturbation and P consumption habits in teenagers here in my country as soon as I start my M.A in clinical psychology. This topic is really relevant today!
