P.A.W.S. - what are they, cure, duration

This paws is really serious. The fact that we got people here 3-4 years into hard mode with minimal slip ups just means that this recovery is very long lasting. And also the intensity of the symptoms and how bad we're really suffering just tells us that the people who used to say this was like addictive drugs was true. I'd say the duration is even longer than those drugs (aside from some very severe ones). A lot of our life problems and issues that we used to blame on other things were actually from pmo, at least we were the ones to realize this. Now we just gotta wait to be recovered.

 

Its really tough to know the healing modalities people have used during there abstinence period. There is pervasive thought on this forum that abstinence from porn == recovery, and nothing else can or does help. This may or may not be true, but we should be constantly testing this hypothesis.

Its clear there is huge variation in recovery times, and the variables for this are unclear. It is not simply just amount of hours watching porn, relapses, no. of lifetime orgasms etc etc that is influecing this.

In 12 step recovery programs they are utterly clear that abstinence is simply a component to healing, but the inner emotional & psychological transformation is the main part. I can't comment on this directly yet, but just highlighting the most effective addiction recovery protocol to date, over multiple different addictions, treating millions of people, doesnt subscribe to abstinence only based recovery. There needs to be a total transformation of self

Im currently approaching month 4, which is my longest streak in 3 years. Im completely broken this streak, constant nightmares, anxiety, barely alive but pushing myself into active healing modalities

Why would it be irreversible? Is there any evidence or medical papers to support the fact that it’s irreversible? How would someone even discover that they were permanently damaged without abstaining for years on end?

Porn not being exciting and having no erection would not mean a person is necessarily a severe case.

 

How many years in a serious case?

 

I remember prior to NoFap having pornsites open and be bored (when i was teenager i could not wait to open a pornsite, so exited), and my flatline has been bad and lasted long time. 20+ years of addiction here.

I didn't have morning wood for more than a decade, and even not being 100% healed yet, I'm already getting it often thanks to NoFap.

I don't think there are irreversible cases even though we sometimes feel that way. Because the reboot takes so long to give positive results.

Healing from this is difficult but it's not impossible.

I don't mean to aggressively reject your response, but I don't understand why somebody would not be able to recover? Or how you would measure someone being a severe case? I am trying to understand where this information would even come from?

BTW to people who want to try or add to their recovery journey, there are a multitude of 12 step meetings for people abatianing completely from PMO, with many people with years of abstinence. At the evry least you find support, encouragement, non judgementalism, and a great way to help expedite processing your negative emotional states. I am 7+ months into total abstinence from PMO. I have not recovered 100% of my sexual function, not even close. Age is also a factor as I am 40 years old now.

There are several other persons in this thread that have not fully recovered from severe PAWS. I am actually curious to see who HAS recovered their sexual function 100% after a severe case of PAWS (that lasts longer than 6 or 12 months). Because I observe plenty of people that have not recovered their sexual function or recovered only partially.

Based on cases that I have seen and read about on the forum, the damages are only partly reversible

I like to share positivity but I also think it is important for us to understand the extent of the damage that is likely to happen from the PMO addiction.

PMO addiction is unique. Drug addiction, i.e. meth, as far as I know, does not cause a long-term damage to the male sexual function.

It is just as important sharing positivity as it is understanding how much damage excessive use of PMO can do to a person.

 

How can we continue in this life if the damage we have caused ourselves refers to serious cases
