    Hey guys

I just configured Open DNS family shield

    https://www.opendns.com/setupguide/#familyshield

I use multiple OS so need a DNS blocker.
After I configured the router I did the test, it said it worked.

I flushed the cache for router and browser.

I can still see porn sites. I also created an account, however I did not install the client to account for dynamic IP as it will not work on linux.Anyway, I installed K9 on windows, and that is working. But I have a massive vunrability on windows. I need Open DNS to block at DNS level!

  2. Try CleanBrowsing. Its a DNS that blocks 98% percent of pornsites vs Open DNS which blocks only 90% (read that in a study but cant find the source anymore). CleanBrowsing is much simpler to set up and they also have it on android.

  5. You can use the website futureme.org

It allows you to send yourself an email which will arrive in the future (3 months, 1 year etc..). Generate a random password on random.org and then send it to yourself via futureme.org.

Thanks for the info. I did have OpenDNS and switched to CleanBrowsing. It does a better job blocking porn.

  9. What about for the whole house? My eldest son is eleven now and it won’t be long...if not already...that he could use the browser on his PS4 to watch porn. I used to do it on my ps3. I don’t want my kids to have to suffer like I have. Is there a way to block your whole WiFi? Sorry...I’m not very tech smart.

Do you know how to configure the router?
Typically in advance settings, look for DNS settings, and in static addresses type 185.228.168.168, or 185.228.169.168.

  11. No clue lol! I’m sure there is a tutorial out there on google somewhere. I just figured maybe someone here had a easy way to do it.

  12. I think if you install Open DNS you can set it to filter and block porn content on all the devices that connect to the internet through your router.

OpenDNS should block porn sites. It won't do anything to google search results though, neither some places such as Reddit (some good content, some bad). At least that's been my experience.

Looks like for CleanBrowsing there's a moderate and strict filter you can use.

Moderate (Adult Shield): Blocks all porn, locks search engines into safesearch, allows Reddit/others.

Strict (Family Shield): Blocks all porn, locks searches and youtube into safesearch, blocks Reddit/others.

    https://cleanbrowsing.org/filters

Also just checked... When OpenDNS blocks a page you're redirected to "OpenDNS blocked this, because porn", when CleanBrowsing blocks a page it just shows a "page not found" error.

Yes, look for a tutorial in youtube for your brand and model. It's worth the pain, for your kid.

I have a HTC m9. Have not been able to yet locate where to update dns settings. Have not tried too much

  16. When you send an electronic request to a porn site to open on your computer, these services will intercept the request and send it elsewhere to be terminated... then it waits for different input that will actually work.

So... instead of doing that... how about when your dick sends a request to your brain to go find some porn to watch... you intercept the request (have self-control), send it elsewhere to be terminated (stop considering it), and wait for different input... something else in your surroundings that is a healthier form of stimulation, sexual or not).

What may seem like the most difficult way to conquer PMO addiction is also the fastest and most permanently effective. I used meditation, exercise, better eating habits, and a new obsession with overall self-improvement, and I successfully put PMO in my past over three years ago now. I'm just still around here to help others.

A blocking service like the ones you are talking about will only stop porn from showing up on your screen. It will not stop you from thinking it's okay to do just this once. It will not stop you from seeking it. It will not stop you from craving it and obsessing over it. And all of those things will keep you miserable and constantly remind you at every level how hard it is to quit. If instead you stop now, exerting your own self-control at all levels, you're going to get through this way faster and with way less net angst. The hardest part is today, so just start getting that over with.... today.

  17. Blocking the sites at DNS level is the most solid way of protecting against the sites being viewed, it's not that difficult you just need to enter the IP address of your router in the browser which is normally something like 192.168.1.1 and that will take you to the router hub where you can log in. From there, usualy in advanced settings or something along those lines you will see a section for DNS which when opened up will normally have two boxes to enter the DNS addresses in. It's these addresses that the router connects to before presenting any web page on the screen. In order to enhance the security further (kids are very smart) change the router user name and password from the router menu to something only you know. Then look under the router where it normally displays the 'default' user name and password and peel off the sticker or paint over it and keep a record of it for yourself. That way even if the router is reset and someone looks under the router for the default log in, it wont be there. Hide any manual that came with the router as well.

Of course all of this is pointless if you have a smart phone connected to a 4g network!

Haha good analogy and thanks for the honesty.

I'm just hoping the blockers give me an extra moment to consider my choices. This is my third attempt and first time actually putting blockers up.

So i agree with you, but I'm just hoping to give myself the best possible chance.

  19. @thorswrath32 Thanks for taking the time to explain that to me. I remember having to go on there before for something and I changed the password.....aaaaaaaaannnnnd now I don’t remember it.

@Phallosopher That's very true. I understand that blockers aren't ultimately the solution. We need to convince ourselves that we don't want porn even if it is available. But if that extra layer the blocker creates keeps me from binging in a moment of weakness then I'm installing a blocker.
