Been looking at porn for off and on 52 years. Trying to connect and talk things out on a regular basis with someone from nofap but having little success. I thought getting connected like I saw in the forums would help but not sure now.

I recommend simply reading many threads and learning. Well done for starting this!

having an online support group is an excellent tool but it will not keep you from relapsing, that requires work on your part. You have to be truly ready to quit, you need to get angry! you need to grab the demon inside you and tell it im done being your puppet, you need to be ready to cut the strings and stop making excuses. When urges hit you have to tell yourself no, get physically angry about it, get furious about it, get pissed your even considering relapsing and yell if you have to. You cannot allow yourself to stay in a tempted mindset. Ask your self what will quitting get me and will it be better than right now, cold showers are a great tool also. One of the biggest most important things you need to quit is a lifestyle change, you need to get active and start exercising, if your diet is bad than eat healthy, a good rule is if its not from the earth or from animals dont eat it, basically shop around the edges of the grocery store. You need to start meditating, start taking care of your body, dont get into the mind set that you are a looser, tell yourself im quitting and i am way better than this demon in me trying to hold on for dear life, you need to deny it the right to live and be in you. Even just being on day one is a huge thing, you are taking the first steps on a long road to freedom.

I think just accepting that you have been doing this for 52 years is important. You will get advice from people like me who have been doing it for 26 years. You might be able to relate to some of what we say but I think it's important to keep in mind that you have double the conditioning that we have. You have a unique challenge ahead of you but you are not alone. Keep fighting. I have seen people addicted to cigarretes for over 45 years quit. But there were ups and downs. Stay in touch, I am still trying to quit but I have noticed that drifting away from this forum after a few months of success has been my downfall in the past.

  5. 40 years for me and it wasn’t easy quitting. I don’t want to say I’m over it but this is the longest I’ve gone without it and the strongest I’ve felt against the temptation. Lots of things I went through, as well as others. Can’t just say here’s steps 1-2-3 etc, go through these in order and you’ll be good.

For now I’ll say a big part of getting over porn addiction is having things in your life that you enjoy better. Things that take up your thoughts as well as your actions. It took me awhile to find the things I enjoy doing but right now it’s wall climbing, photography, and traveling. If I’m not doing them, I’m thinking and planning on my next time to do them. Add in work and I’ve run out of time and energy for porn.

But that’s a simplified answer. There was a lot more going on to get to where I am now.

Read the posts, PM those with high streaks for their advice, and also post questions to get general inputs from others.

    I wish you the best!!!
