Whenever I intend to access the forums on Nofap, I come across these types of articles.

I have mixed feelings towards this one in particular, which I'm sure most of you are familiar with, and its the first search result that appears when you type in 'Nofap'.

Every once in awhile I read the article, just to make sure that I'm familiar with the common objections to Nofap. Yes, I am aware the article doesn't make any explicit objections to the practice, "There’s nothing inherently wrong with masturbation, even if you do it while watching porn. Partaking in some self-love isn’t a problem unless it’s interfering with your life." I just think its important for us to review our own beliefs regarding PMO in context of morality ( which many may be afraid to do due to the supposed subjectivity of the discussion ).

When an article gives benefit of a doubt to the idea of masturbation not being a risky practice (at least in moderation ), I wonder if we're really speaking based on empirical evidence rather than ethics anyway. The cited studies seem hardly conclusive, but then again, I am a beginner at reading scientific articles.

Perhaps there ought to be push back against whatever gains traction, keeping it in check. Sure, there is hyperbole within the Nofap community, and many people want to 'expose' the dark truths about the community. Nonetheless if we're going to be committed to Nofap, we shouldn't let secular, commonly accepted notions of sexual behaviour have unchecked influence over an honest discussion about masturbation ( self-love? ) and pornography, nor should we let detractors gain moral high-ground by portraying abstinence as an act of self-denial, and not recognise that when it happens.

This is a point of view of many people but many people have ten thousands of points of views. The fact that a group of people - this can be even the majority of people, has some points of views and system of beliefs doesn't mean that I have to accept that. As a Catholic I reject all what is in disagreement with the teaching of Roman Catholic Church. Thanks to RCC I am free of this addiction because only RCC gave me really effective means to fight this addiction. If I believed in the above quote I would still be an addict because I would only try to lower my pmo acts but in case of addicts it's impossible because it's like to lower the amount of food in case of food addicts who try to lose weight. After some time of 'lowering' there comes a phase of yo-yo effect (binge eating) and in case of pmo - pmo binge.

I think, as a newly converted catholic, it's a bit difficult when said group of people brandish scientific studies to validate their beliefs, even invalidating my beliefs by appealing them to the same standard we hold say, the physical sciences to. Sometimes we are afraid of living a life contrary to what scientists deem ideal, or at the very least living a life of placebos, which is a sad state to be in - placing scientists in positions of authority over truth, as if they can do no wrong or answer all our questions.

Most often these are no scientific studies but opinions only. Opinions stated by scientists without any basis. I don't know any scientific studies which basing on experiments could state that watching porn or masturbation are safe. These are only opinions promoted by media, school, modern 'culture' , teen magazines ..etc - I could ask the 'scientists' - if watching porn plus masturbating in moderation is safe then how it is possible that there are so many pmo addicts. (not thousands or even milions but hundreds of milions around the world). We live in environment which is full of lies. Lies and mass propaganda rule the West world.

I had a brother who, along with my parents and another brother, was involved in a serious car accident as a child. At the tender age of 7 he sustained second and third degree burns from the waist down. Doctors said he may never walk again. He endured months of skin grafts and excruciating skin debridement. Among other effects one of his big toes was so seriously burned that one could see light through a hole melted completely through by scalding radiator fluid. One night, doctors told my father (who was in a bed next to my brother with a broken back and two broken legs) that they would amputate the toe the next morning. My devout Catholic father vowed to Our Lady that he would pray the rosary everyday of his life as an offering for help from Our Blessed Lord. My father kept that promise for the next 60 years. My brother's toe healed overnight and he learned to walk again (and went on to become a semi-pro basketball player). My brother's physician was so awestruck he converted to Catholicism shortly after witnessing this miracle.

Now for the rest of the story. My brother was also gifted with high intelligence. Despite being raised as a Catholic in a devout Catholic family, when he reached adolescence he came to rely solely on his intellect. His pride would not allow him to keep his spiritual faith. He was persuaded to believe that Christ is not the Son of God. He often said, he just wasn't gifted with faith.

It is still hard for me to understand how someone who was the recipient of so many miracles could reject Christ but it was the case. There are a lot of misguided people out there who want us to join them. Evil will always reject virtue because virtue makes them uncomfortable. Don't let the bastards trick you.
