I’ve seen numerous testimonies here and on youtube regarding the return of morning wood after some time on NoFap.

It seems to me that while PIED makes perfect sense (due to desensitization to more extreme stimuli), lack of morning erections technically should have nothing to do with porn use or masturbation.

I’m no scientist or doctor but let me break down my impressions (which may be wrong) here.

Sexual erections rely on testosterone, blood flow, and many other variables including dopamine, immersion in the moment, relaxation, arousal, etc.

Morning Wood relies only on testosterone, blood flow, and the neurotransmitter norepinephrine.

Does anyone have any insight on this issue, as many NoFappers report a total lack of morning wood and the return of it due to abstinence from PMO. If you have had any experience regarding this please do share, how long did you go without seeing morning wood and how long until it came back?

Moreover, it would be interesting to know if any NoFappers out there have ever struggled with PIED while still having consistent morning wood during the same time period. I dont think I’ve found any examples of someone WITH PIED who noted experiencing consistent morning wood during the same time period (which frankly, throws a wrench in the logic presented above in this post).

    Thanks!

I never had any signs of PIED, but I lost my morning boner for about a month when I was in flatline state.

Very interesting. It seems so many men who decide to recover from the effects of PMO experience a loss of morning wood (due to flatline or before rebooting all together). Yet biologically one would think the two (PMO and Morning Erections) shouldn’t be related.
I wonder if it could have something to with norepinephrine, the neurotransmitter that comes into play with morning wood. Norepinephrine is connected to dopamine, which we know is one of the central players when it comes to PMO.

Yeah man, it's definitely related with brain reboot.

I didn't have morning wood for years but I didn't have PIED either.

Since nofap though I got to a point where I was having strong morning wood 5-6 times a week, this started at about a month in but would come and go randomly until after two months where it became consistent. After that I relapsed and morning wood stayed but I've since relapsed a couple more times and morning wood has now gone or is at best weak. I suspect that after a week or so it will come back strong again though if I stay clean.

Not sure what to conclude from that. I never even really thought about morning wood as I had no issues with arousal so I didn't really care, tbh I had it in my mind that at 29 I was just at an age where it doesn't happen anymore but clearly that's wrong.

  6. The problem with sience is that they also say mastrubating is good and it doesnt matter how often that's why i think they don't have the knowledge yet

There is an overwhelming amount of personal anecdotes online that point out this very same correlation between MW and PMO.
