Learning about how the brain processes things. Dopamine and the brain’s natural opioid neurotransmitters that basically tell the brain to release endorphins to obtain the pleasure sensations we experience with PMO. How dopamine basically is an insatiable neurotransmitter that amps up our brain with that exciting feeling when searching for material to PMO. It’s original function is to keep us alive and spread our genes. It’s basically a machine that knows nothing more than that. Our consciousness though is able to tell us that we are not with an actual mate but staring at a screen. All the dopamine and opioid transmitters know is that we were able to spread our genes to new, different and multiple partners through a certain method, so why not keep doing that? Hence the whole thing with your brain re-wiring itself to do what it thinks is the best thing to do. I think it’s really cool to learn about this stuff because it gives you an edge that I never had before. It gets kind of hazy when trying to think about ways to “trick your brain” into re-wiring to a different route to me but I am still learning.

With this, also learning about how important exercise is in this process. Getting your dopamine and opioid fix through “positive” stressors such as exercise seems to help decrease cravings. Sure they don’t eliminate cravings, but, like I said, I’m still learning. I do find myself going to other things as well to get the dopamine/opioid fix. Things such as overeating or eating junk food. Again another way they brain thinks it is doing something good, because you are getting all of these calories to help you stay alive. It’s our consciousness that is able to see that we will have food tomorrow, so we don’t need to eat everything we can now.

I know the brain is going through the withdrawal of being over-stimulated from excessive PMO and now expects that same amount of natural opioids and thus comes the hits of dopamine that say “Go get some! We need it!” in reference to food or sex. (Blood pressure increases, heart rate speeds up, anxiety looms, excitement comes in).

Any Ideas how to trick your brain when faced with these urges in the moment? Say, 11pm at night, you’ve exercised but you get hit with this craving of “I need to get off right now” or “I need to eat that whole package of Oreos!” even though you’re not hungry?
