    Hi fellow Faprstronatus,

When I go cold turkey (hard mode) for a few months, I fall into deep depressive state. I don't even want to get out of bed, go out, do anything or see anyone. Anxiety kicks in big time. I can go without eating a day or more and not feel hunger. I used to exercise to counter it, but when ever I didn't exercise for a few days, I got so down that I couldn't do it anymore and everything goes to hell from there on. Is anyone experiencing similar symptoms when in NoFap? How do you cope with it?

Be an interesting person, stay busy with life. I don't think it is "major depression," but depression or sadness. I experienced that for a bit with my withdrawal symptoms, and then boredom. haha. but I overcame them all. lol. Haven't felt the need to watch porn in a while. I also felt anger throughout my withdrawal symptoms like lashing out etc. But everyone's withdrawal symptoms is different. IMO.

You just gotta fight through it; scream at the top of your lungs, whatever gets you through to the other side. If you give in at the point where you feel depressed, the brain fog will never leave you and the darkness will overtake you.

How long does it take? I went 3-6 months monk mode multiple times with the same results. Severe physical symptoms like constant headache, wild mood swings, insomnia, flue like state, go away after 3-4 months, but depression gets worse and worse to the point I have no will to live anymore if I don't get my daily dopamine fix from vigorous exercise. I can't live like this anymore. Every time I've gone cold turkey for multi months deep depression kicks in. I don't sleep at night, I can't go out of bed in the morning, can't even get outside and do 5 min walk anymore. I was shocked today what have I done to my body… I went from fairly athletic figure to ultra skinny no muscle body in last 6 months. People ask me what do I do. I say nothing and that's the truth. I used to be very active person, but I can't do a thing nowdays. Even writing this post feels like a burden.

Oh man, maybe you need to get checked out, have bloodwork done. I am on day 42 and life feels absolutely fanfuckingtastic. My dopamine receptors are back on track and I feel on the upward path.

lmao, just ignore him, maybe he is lashing out because he can't get laid in real life by any ladies unless he goes to massage parlors or strippers on the street corner. It will take a while bud before the symptoms disappear. I had mine for a short term.

  9. Try to hang in there. Some of us who have had a severe addiction or a specific genetic makeup need more time to reboot. The withdrawal symptoms last long and I know its hard. Im going through the same thing. Once you're past the withdrawal stage and your dopamine pathways have reached homeostasis, you will feel amazing. I think these hard withdrawal symptoms make you a stronger person in the end. Keep it up and stay strong.

I'm 15 months 'hardmode'. Physically I feel much better, most withdrawals symptoms disappeared, however mental issues still persist. I think there is not much you can do exept be patient and constant with your reboot process. It might take a long time, much longer than expected (up to few years). I know it's a hell, I have gone through days when I was not able to get out of bed, going out to buy some groceries and eat was a real challenge. I was getting anxiety attacks with very strong somatic symptoms almost passing out in the mornings. This will go away with time. It's hard to say if such mental state is solely related to withdrawals from PMO and brain damage from excesive porn use and masturbation or PMO just masks our fears and true feelings and they all come to surface when we abstain from PMO. I think it's a both.

Medication can help, but it takes time until it starts to work, I started to feel improvement only after 6 months taking AD, but it helped me a lot.

  11. I have had constant headaches since hitting around a 40ish day streak coupled with depression. I relapsed, but they did not go away. I think the biggest thing is to keep pushing forward. Mulligan Brothers YT channel has helped me immensely. I used to be a gym rat but persistent headaches have become too severe to work out. I do what I can and write to get my feelings out. In addition, I am starting a mild dose of anti-depressants. I refuse to fap again, as the effects on my life have been disastrous. I would recommend trying to see a doctor and investigate an anti-depressant as you seem to be more severe than me. Writing has also helped me immensely, and devoting myself fully to my academic studies when I have any energy. You can do it. In the archetypal Heroes journey, he must go through hell before he can be reborn. We will keep on pushing forward together. Healing is worth it.

  12. Don't go without food it will only make anxiety worse. How bad is your anxiety everyday? It sounds like you might have a bit of burnout at the moment. Go see a doctor if you can and use this advice:

Don't worry about anything, even anxiety, just plan productively, be disciplined and let everything else be
Don't make depression worse by identifying with self deprecating thoughts
You are not your thoughts and feelings
When it feels tough say to yourself this is how it is right now and be gentle
Eat and drink enough, get a multivitamin that has a decent a-z with nothing too high
Download the app Insight Timer it's free

Do long body scans after eating, if you're interested I can link you some good ones on insight timer

Look in to getting a decent essential oil diffuser and buy organic lemon or orange (whichever is your favourite) and organic lavender oil. Use the former in the morning and latter in the evening

Hard mode is tough but the absolute main thing is you stay away from porn, fantasizing and old PMO related behaviours. As long as you do that you'll be over it eventually

If you have the energy, time and money have you thought about getting a dog or a cat? Training a dog is very rewarding and the companionship could lift you out of depression

You need to replace one dopamine hit with another healthy one. If you aren't hitting the gym already then start now, it is a great source of healthy dopamine. You could also try picking up a new hobby, or learning something.

  14. I think 90 days not enough to recover. Sometimes I feel good but today again I feel like I have a big hangover and anxiety without any reason. :(

I struggle with depression and loneliness during periods of abstinence but I can give you some consolation - the solution is not PMO; what you are describing is a spiritual issue and pornography will absolutely make it worse 100 times out of 100.

Exercising is great, but you should try taking walks - less for the sake of exercise and more to get in touch with yourself. Walk without listening to anything, just allow thoughts to sink in, and don't turn away from anything. Mentally running away from your feelings won't solve them.
Other possibilities are to take up new hobbies. Fill your life with things that interest, excite and inspire you, like art, hiking, studying nature, meditation, religion, etc.
    Best of luck!

This! Keep up with the good habits, stay active, stay connected, you'll find what specific tools work best for you. They may change (different meditations, different exercise/activity, different social connections at different times) but staying active and staying connected and yep staying away from porn and fantasy is so huge. Good luck and great advice on here!
