Looking for secular, health-oriented friends here

A group for members of all religions, or no religion at all, to talk about religion

I've found the NoFap forums an interesting diversion for a short while but I'm inclined to step back, mainly because of the unendurable, overbearing religiosity that is so prevalent. This thread is a case in point. The OP is asking for secular friends. Nevertheless the bible-bashers soon arrive with their smug, judgmental and unhelpful prescriptions and certitudes. Where is the irony, the humour, the quizzical thoughtfulness that could help get us through this? There must be some correlation between people wanting/needing to give up porn, or inflicted/damaged by it, and those who have already permanently etched into their brains (and seem determined to etch it into the brains of others) a 2000 year old fable, despite the site's rules against proselytising? It's not so much that I don't agree with these people - I have complete respect for the beliefs of others, though not always the actions they take as a result of their beliefs - it's more that it's mind-numbingly boring.

Hopefully they figure it out before some church girl sells them the love story while sleeping around on the side.

  3. say whatever you want about Christians, but we’ll see how God himself feels about it when you face God almighty himself. I know there have been times when I could have been judgmental, but all we’re doing is telling the truth that’s in the Holy Bible and word of God. We’re doing what Jesus Christ himself said, “Go and preach the good news to all nations”.

  4. First of all, it’s not some church girl, she follows Christ. She loves God with all her heart. And it’s not just, “the love story”. It’s the greatest love story ever told. God loved you so much, (and he still does), he sent his only son to die for you so you wouldn’t have to spend eternity in hell. Please don’t be angry at the Christians for spreading the truth. But instead, accept it and thank them for it. You get one life and God requires that we live it just for him, Nothing else. He knows everything, every little detail about our lives. Even you. Please understand and think about it.

Yeah, it is ironic, isn't it? I think I might have caused some offense when I suggested many Christmas are judgemental towards others.

I think the reason many very religious people struggle with PMO is due to the all the rules they live under, it makes PMO even more appealing. Also, just a lot of unhealthy views on sex, making it very shameful to talk about, even sex in a marriage. When you make something "forbidden" it has an even greater appeal.

Also, so many religious people are motivated by fear. Fear of not being good enough, fear of eternal torment, and there view of God is a strict and angry father. Many experince the same in their own families. Parents putting lots of expectations on them that they think unfair or impossible. When they don't meet these expectations there is a lot of shame. A lot of these parents also put their god over their kids, leading to serious neglect.

It's no wonder many of the church kids I grew up with rebel and turn to different addictions, drugs, alcohol and porn (probably the most common one).
And the ones who don't, become just as bad as their parents or elders, telling other people to live by standards they don't do themselves. They spending time finding fault in others while not seeing how hypocritical their own lives are.

A wise perspective. Perhaps us secular NoFappers should have a harder target (180 days?) to compensate for the apparent fact that it's easier for us. Or maybe since the religionists appear to be even more damaged/conflicted than we are, we should go easy on them? I wish they'd lighten up, though, and stop trying to judge, threaten or bore us. They need a bit of their own medicine. Unfortunately they have a grip on political power, as well as themselves, in many countries (not here thank God), with malign and unpleasant effects for everyone.

  8. I will defend my God for as long as I live. So I can’t and won’t stop. Just saying, You will face my God and will be told the same things I have said. That’s all I’m gonna say.

I know what’s going on with the non-Christians. They’re jealous of not having what the Christians have. The Christians have one thing, that’s the trinity. (Jesus Christ, God the father himself and the Holy Spirit), that’s it. They don’t need anything else because they have them. The non Christians think they don’t need God because they have everything in the world, but really they don’t have anything.

Buddy, would you please defend him elsewhere though? If God is almighty I don't think he needs you defending him. He can speak for himself.

Please respect OPs thread and take this elsewhere. No one here is telling you what to believe or how to live your life.

    Thank you.

Your misplaced religious certitude, or your conflicting but equally stubborn addiction to pornography and wanking? Here in the real world we may not have anything, but at least we don't have that insoluble conundrum to grapple with.

  11. Alright, I'm taking the bait.
You do realize that different people have different beliefs right? Being non-Christian doesn't mean being an atheist. You have to have respect for what other people believe in. If you don't then at least try not to show it. Because what you say might hurt someone. And God would never like that. The OP specifically asked for secular friends because he was tired of all this. Please don't cause trouble in the name of God.

  12. Don't provoke him brother.

There is an implication here that being an atheist is somehow wrong, lesser than those believing in one god or another. Did you mean to say that? Is it what you really think?

  14. Not at all. Being an atheist is a most logical conclusion. Several of my friends are atheists they're nice dudes. I might've become an atheist myself. If you choose not to believe in anything I respect that. I wouldn't consider someone to be lesser or greater based on their belief because that's just stupid.

When I said that being non- Christian doesn't imply being an atheist I was only trying to say that there are non-Christians who believe in a God (or Gods) and that their belief cannot be considered to be wrong.

I'm sorry if my post seemed to be offensive. I meant no harm to anyone.

  16. Okay, suit yourself. Your loss though.

  17. Okay, suit yourself. Your loss though. I understand. Oh trust me, God will speak for himself alright.

okay, y’all’s loss though. Okay and okay.

  18. Whatever. Yeah, right. It’s true. Okay, suit yourselves. But y’all’s losses though.

  19. Okay. Yes, I understand. Being non Christian is the same as rejecting God. But if that’s what y’all want, the suit yourselves. It’s y’all’s losses though. Yep. I understand, it’s fine. I tried. Well, God is gonna say the exact same things I’ve said. If you read the Holy Bible, you’d know what God likes and doesn’t like. I understand, but I will say that all of the secular people around the world will be accountable for they are doing. I was not causing trouble in the name of God, I was trying to save y’all from the eternal lake of fire and torment. But if that’s what y’all want, then suit yourselves. It’s y’all losses though. But yet, I will still love the people, because that what my God would want me to do.
