    Hello to the community.

I am 22 years old, and to the best of my recollections I think I was first "introduced" to pornography by some mischievous friends in my neighbourhood. I distinctly remember a bunch of teenagers (my "friends") pulling me into a room where they had just started screening a porno. Perhaps all of this was funny for them but I was quite rigid and didn't open my eyes the whole time and ran off at my first chance. How I wish I stayed that way!
The seed planted in me during that incident has germinated and brought forth a tree that gives fruits that help none. The way I see it, habits aren't worth having if you can't pass them along.
It has been 8 years since that incident and I am ashamed today of myself of what I have truly become. I have lost a lot of things over the years and somehow cannot help but think that a large part of it is due to this unbeatable addiction.
It will not be fair to say that I haven't tried beating this menace before. Earlier this year I took up running as a habit and was doing quite well in it, became disciplined, showed self-control but BAM! I met with an accident halfway through the year and all the good work built up until that point went to drain. I feel miserable to have relapsed, and like it naturally happens, the void was replaced with an obsession for porn, masturbation and orgasm like never before.

I truly have heard great reviews of this place, and I hope to begin a new future and never look backwards. I know that I may fall some times, but I hope one day I wish to avoid all those alleys that lead me to this temptation and lead a guilt-free existence.

    Thanks for reading.

P.S: I really don't understand much, but on a cursory note I think the first challenge newbies take up usually is 30day Hard Mode?

Hi @ptokax. Welcome to the NoFap community. It is a place of engagement and encouragement. Like me, I am sure this will be a relief after battling with this insidious addiction for years. Your "friends", hmm. I guess they thought they were doing you a favour by giving you the chance to experience porn during puberty. But it is so harmful to the adolescent brain. Once hooked by masturbating to people having sex, we are drawn inexorably into that salacious culture. So, to come to a porn recovery website is a good move and a potentially life-changing experience. There are a few odd expressions and abbreviations used here, but they are debunked in the Glossary ^.

Hard mode is recommended as the quickest and most effective way to tackle this addiction. As for goals, that is entirely up to you. There is no particular recommendation for 'newbies'. You could start with a modest goal of a few days, a couple of weeks or a month. Some people like to have a bigger goal of 100 days, 6 months or a year. There are so many factors which will determine how long it will take your brain to recalibrate it's reward circuitry that it is impossible to be specific. Many months would be a minimum period. This is why a shorter, foreseeable goal is often chosen. Check these tips out:
