As the title says it, I've decided to start the ketogenic diet. Basically, its a high fat diet and low carb diet. 75% fat, 20% protein, and 5% carbs. Briefly, what happens is, your no longer is receiving the carbs as energy, so your body enters a state called ketosis, where the body no longer focus much on storing fat, but rather, it uses that fat as a energy source. So you basically never lose muscle mass nor do you get fat, rather you end up losing lots of fat and fat only because that's your energy source. Many people use this strategy to get lean and big. There is so much research behind and so much testimonies.
Just like everyone, I was thinking no way, this is BS, so unhealthy, but hey, the more research I did, the more I was convinced, that this is actually and amazing strategy. There was even a women, that had cancer and she was going to go through some serious surgery, I believe in the jaw. She went on the diet and surprisingly she killed the cancer. Wow. This video gives you a brief intro about the diet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2xhlIIueZY

So, today is my first day into this diet and surprisingly I notice many different changes. Number 1, I'm burly on day 16 of no PMO and I feel like I reached flat line, You usually dont reach this state till after 4-5 weeks or more. I know its because of the diet, its the carbs that give you that immediate energy, thus getting, you could say horny. This diet, because there's no carbs, you don't experience any change of mood, because there is no spike of energy witch comes from carbs mainly. Your mood is like the flow of the river and amazingly, yesturday, porn was going through my mind, but today, just thinking about it makes me want to through up.

Another name for this is ultra low carb or ULC. I lost about 70 pounds essential cycling ULC with one high carb night per week. Contrary to popular opinion there are no documented long term negative side effects to this diet. In fact it's been shown to help epileptics and diabetics a great deal, in some cases to the point of no longer needing medication, or insulin in the case of type 1. Some of the pros include:
    • Increased mental clarity after approximately 10 days of ULC
    • Reduction of mood and energy swings, due to stable blood sugar
    • improvements in blood test results, specifically cholesterol.
    • ease of fat loss without losing and sometimes even gaining muscle.

I personally experienced all of these. Nofap and ULC go perfectly together in my opinion. Eating large amount of carbs in one sitting causes a spike in blood sugar, and then a precipitous drop, after which your brain starts to crave another high. Sound familiar?

I realize this is an old thread, but just wanted to comment on this as I've been busy alot with diets and general health in the past 2-3 years. I've personally done this diet myself for 2 weeks, and it did work to an extend as I lost a few lbs of fat but I didn't gain any muscle probably because it's pretty hard to push yourself to the limits when relying on ketones (from fat) as fuel as opposed to glycogen. Also, I did have much trouble thinking when transitioning into ketosis (I transitioned to ketosis within 2 days due to an extreme HIIT session :p, which is High Intensity Interval Training), but that's just a temporary.

Unless you are exclusively trying to lose weight without losing muscle for a short period of time, I don't recommend this method. Although carbs can be bad, they also have good uses, such as being an essential part of the process of making testosterone and other hormones (low carb diets have been proven to decrease testosteron) and also filling your muscles with energy. A diet I recently gained a lot of interest in, is Carb Backloading by John Kiefer. Basically you start doing a few days low carb to induce ketosis, and after that you can eat quite an ammount of carbs after every training (must be strength training or HIIT, not cardio) preferably carbs with a high glycemic index (dextrose, white rice, but also loads of junk foods and ice is allowed if you're into that) to spike your insulin, so it is taken directly to the muscles. The catch is that you have to eat no-carb before the training, and preferably skip breakfast, to take advantage of the fat-burning state you're in after a night sleep. I haven't bought the book of John Kiefer myself yet, but done quite alot of research and it makes sense but I suck at explaining it...so if you're interested just google Carb Backloading :p

The diet I've been doing that I described is actually Keifer's Carb Nite Solution. Carb Backloading is great if you're close to your goal bodyfat percentage, or you're looking to build a lot of muscle without gaining any fat.

Ah cool, I've seen that name around a few times indeed. Didn't know it had so much in common with the diet I've done in the past :D

I guess I'm kinda close to my body weight but I really notice the effects of fat burning in the morning and overall just feel better while doing the workouts, guess it fits me a lil more ;P Also it's sooo much easier to make dinner with carbs haha, although I guess you'll find ways to make this work better ;p
