I'm also on day 3 of my first time trying this out, and have a current goal of 30 days. So, we're in the same boat! Best of luck to you :)

So, nearing the end of day three for me, and today went pretty amazing :) Didn't even have any urges! I stayed pretty busy today though, so that helped. How's everyone else doing?

Woo, last night was rough for me. I kept doubting myself, and my reasons for doing this... And I REALLY wanted to give up and read some erotica. I must admit, I do miss my erotica... But I will stay strong!

I hope all of you are doing well :)

Well done VC. What you are describing are rationalisations produced by a dopamine addicted brain (common to us all here). In some journals, the person actually lists their reasons for taking on this challenge. That can be really useful when doubts arise, as you can read your reasons and thereby convince yourself.

I always assumed that visual images of genitals, naked bodies, watching people having sex was the ultimate erotic experience. However, I was surprised to discover that when I read erotic stories, sometimes I would cum even harder and even shoot further. Obviously, the story has to be skilfully composed. I have never really understood why, though. As someone that has turned to erotica as a major porn genre, why do you think it can be more arousing than explicit, hard-core sex?

P.S. Oh, and I am doing well. Thank you.

63 days thats inspiring bro. Ive only gotten into erotica once or twice but i think it's because your brain is more active when reading, calling upon more neural pathways of memory and imagination etc. to create the scene in your head. More work more stimulus bigger cum shot basically haha
It takes energy to create energy

Only day 4 for me but im feeling the change and i'm starting to feel real courage. The courage to face the world, the truth, and make a difference in my life and hopefully others. I have big dreams and a long road ahead of me and for the first time in a while im excited for what's to come in the future.

Been a long and busy day for me and so far not finding it too difficult…I have blocked all adult sites on my laptop using K9 and this has been very helpful as I know I can't access the sites that previously I would look at daily.

Looks like you guys are doing well too…some way to go to match IGY!!

I guess i should share a little of myself. Hopefully some of you can relate or can be inspired by this. I'll try to keep it short. Here i go

My addiction began innocently, just a kid infatuated with women and sex (everyone watches porn right) but as time progressed it became more frequent and i grew dependent on it, and the porn and masturbation (amongst other things in my life) was a way of running away from lifes weight but i was too naive to realize it. Always the kid to lead the group and chase dreams, i began to lose my way and was becoming a completely different person. The guy all my friends and family knew and loved was gone.
It wasn't until i lost everything and pushed whatever was left that i did have away that i admitted i had a problem. But at first i would only admit it to myself whenever it was quiet and i was alone, but as soon as the day got started and i was at school or at work my ego took over and denied everything and helplessly attempted to overcompensate for the emptiness and shame i felt. This vicious cycle of making a little progress then stepping backwards has made this war very long and difficult.

But i've learned a lot along the way. One of things i've learned is that their is great power in self awareness

P.s. I genuinely want everybody to not only free themselves of their addiction but push their boundaries, expand their mind, and have the courage and heart to be themselves and love. So i reply to all messages and private messages

Yeah, I know that things are going to be rough for a while. I'm addicted, and I'm going through withdrawal. Obviously my brain is going to freak out and tell me that I'm making a mistake, it's been used to orgasms every day before now!

Well, it's way different for me than most who read erotica. Most of the erotica I read is fanfiction (fan-written stories that have characters of a book/TV show/etc). I'm a huge nerd, so OF COURSE I'd rather read about Kirk and Spock going at it, rather than two random dudes.

But, my theory about why many other people enjoy erotica... It might have something to do with the imagination aspect. When you're watching porn, you're watching real people. But with a written piece of work, you are the one who makes up what the people look like. Yeah, they might describe the person a little but, say that they're blond or some other random aspect, but in the end, you get to imagine what YOUR perfect person would be. No two people are going to imagine the same thing.

I watched the movie Into the Wild, that's based on that book. I would LOVE to read it. The movie was amazing, and the books are always better.

Yeah the movie was good too but as any harry potter fan knows, the books are always better

The main guy, Chris Mccandless aka Alexander Supertramp, has a sister, the one in the movie ( it was the real sisters actual voice in the narration of the movie) and she wrote a book last year, The Wild Truth, that goes even deeper in their history. Good reads good reads...

You are very honest about this Leland which, believe me, is a tremendous strength. Masturbating to porn is something we hide from others. In a family scenario, we close our door and take other precautions to ensure that we are not caught in the act. When we come here, although most hide behind the veil of anonymity, we have to be transparent in all other respects. Considering you are 19, You have quite a long history of masturbation, reading erotica and other porn. So, this will be tough for you to heal from this addiction.

Your description of fan fiction erotica is not something I was aware of. However, on a side point I am watching TOS now (yesterday I watched, What Little Girls Are Made Of"). Nothing wrong with being or looking like a nerd by the way. Kirk and Spock, maybe. Sulu and Chekov, definitely, lol.

Your comments about the draw of erotica makes sense and fits in with the reply of The Apprentice to my original post. So, the temptation is real, visceral, but you can conquer it with your commitment and willpower. Keep digging your heels in buddy.

The other thing which differentiates erotica from porn, is that no real people are involved. No actors, or real physical acts. So it's not like anyone is being exploited, because there is no anyone! The person we fantasise about, does not exist..

Very true. We must be completely vulnerable, open, and honest to benefit from this site. Otherwise, i think you're wasting your time. Beyond this site as well ofcourse

this is my first day here. i have been suffering from this addiction for as long as I can remember. I am 22 now , started masturbating at a very young age. porn came in later and made things even worse. I have tried so many times to stop but haven't been able to control myself for very long.
you are right and I feel the exact same way. I wish I had some other form of addiction. its almost impossible to talk to anyone about something like this.
I wish I can break this addiction and get on with my life once in for all.
Hoping that this forum provides the necessary support :)
    8 days in already .
    hope I don't relapse.
I really want to change my life.
