I have a lot of friends that watch porn and they all agree that it is harmful. However, they seem less affected by it. After talking more with them, I found out that our habits were very different.

They usually use porn as a physical release and masturbate while watching it. For me, it's really very different. I never use my hands when watching. My main goal is to watch as many scenes as possible in a session. I also enjoy the mystery of the cringe plots more than the physical stuff in general. I set up a lot of blocks to keep myself from watching but I end up finding loopholes for the blocks and this too is something I find addicting. All together, my PO (Porn + Orgasm - Masturbation) sessions can last 2-5 hours at a time. It keeps me from sleeping on time and really drains me.

Has anyone had a similar relationship to porn? I'm hoping if I find someone that had a similar relationship I could learn transferable skills to beating the addiction no pun intended.

I do masturbate while watching P but my attempts to quit pushed me further towards edging (going at it for prolonged periods of time without orgasm and yes, I can go for hours). I also can spend hours searching for better and better video, hotter and hotter actress, more niche content. And I tend to collect pictures and videos (and keep deleting this crazy collection every time I try to quit). As I understand it from "Your Brain On Porn" website, this behavior isn't that weird once you enter the dopamine chemistry into the picture. I suggest you look into how dopamine addiction works and that my help you find some answers you are looking for. In short: there is a novelty component to dopamine chemistry that pushes you to pursue something and search for the new stimulus. In a sense, the way is more important than the target for dopamine. Once you orgasm, it's different hormones responsible for the pleasant feelings.
