Well im a PMO addict and im trying to recover mainly because of PMO symptoms , such as social anexiety , lack of motivation to do anything , not being able to think clearly , etc....
But i noticed that some of my friends who masturbate alot just as i do , but they are so social and so smart ,etc... The point is that they arent losers like me, alhough we share nearly the same PMO history, whats the reason for this ??

Two possible reasons come to my mind:

    1. Your friends may be overstating the frequency of their masturbation. We live in a culture that tells us that the more sexual activities we engage in the better we are so they may be giving false information to conform to that expectation.

    2. PMO may affect them differently to you, me and the majority of guys here, just as some people can drink alcohol with no problems, while others are alcoholics and drinking destroys their lives. Every person has a different personality and is therefore affected by stimuli in a different way. For example, some people thrive under constant stress while others collapse and can't function. I think it's the same with PMO. I also know people who claim to PMO often and are OK, but I also know a guy who wasted a year or two of his life doing nothing and from what I could gather PMO played a part in that.

It's also possible that you're overrating the skills of your friends while underrating your own.

If you watch PMO long enough with the mindset you will be affected.
Perhaps they aren't into novelty as much and don't click on different videos?
Not watch as long? There are a lot of factors.
Of course everyones brain chemistry is unique, perhaps you produce more dopamine then they do in response to sexual stimulus?
I also think that most people don't get ALL of the symptoms, but I could be mistaken.
For myself I do not get socially anxious, but I do get socially bored easily.
I had a lack of focus, but not a lack of motivation.
Not everyone is going to react the same way to any drug, some people are fully functional heroin addicts while others are pass out on the couch heroin addicts. Some people can binge eat and become 300 pounds while others can binge eat, but have a fast metabolism.
If it AFFECTS YOU in a negative way then that's what matters and that's what you can control.

They are planting causes for their future demise. Be glad you are trying to overcome this now. Their future does not look so bright if they continue fapping, I assure you. If you believe in reincarnation and past lives, the roots of cause and effect are very expansive.

"It's also possible that you're overrating the skills of your friends while underrating your own."

Jatar has a very good point.

How are some heroin users able to maintain high level jobs and function and keep a positive bank account, while some are sleeping under a bridge and have lost everything?

The people under the bridge were once high functioning addicts too. It's only a matter of time before the people 'maintaining' end up under the bridge too if they keep using and progressing in their bad habits/addiction.

PMO addiction has had (talking about me) deep negative effects on my brain that has spread in different forms like shyness, being socially inept and some times overly introverted, these effect are real and they are what a PMO addiction of many years produced, the recover needs a reset, based on the reset you can start to deal with the different additional problems created by the addiction.

the reason you are looking for doesnt matter, other people's lives are their own, you have recognized that you have a problem and you will deal with it, whatever your friends do or dont, its not the priority on your recovery, thats my 2 cents

  6. sharkie98, Those symptoms are the same for me. I am certain that PMO, for me, has intensified lack of confidence and some social anxiety. Not saying it is responsible but feeling better for trying to loosen its hold.

they are just pretending to be happy, but they dont experience the real freedom of mind, give a try to ask them gently if they dont experience something different and unpleasant by pmo.

I'm affected by it, but not in the sense that I have somehow become unproductive, shy, or whatever. Most of the anxiety issues and problems I had in the past resulted from spending too much time on the internet and playing video games. I found that I was happy and fully present whenever I ventured outside of my home and spent time doing things I enjoyed. If I felt lonely, I surrounded myself with people and took the time to participate in discussions. I have been PMOing for a long time, and never once did I ever experience anything negative as a result. Issues like brain fog and fatigue can easily be attributed to bad diet and consuming too much sugar and caffeine. I have a pretty poor diet, eat a lot of candy, and consume enough sugary sodas, energy drinks, and sweetened coffee to power a small city. As a result, I experience brain fog, fatigue, and generally feel shitty half the time. I've been experiencing these symptoms for a few years, so I'll be willing to bet that PMO is not the root cause.

How does PMO affect me? It affects me in the sense that I use it as a crutch. I'm obese, so I have a poor self image as a result of that. I have had some attractive girlfriends, and I generally have a good rapport with women. It's just that I have a poor self image and a fear of rejection. I shouldn't let this bother me, but it does on a subconscious level. In other words, I should work on improving my health and developing a better body image. You could argue that by giving up PMO, I'd be doing that, but the idea of giving up masturbation and porn completely is just daunting to me. I didn't let fapping and porn get in the way of living my life until I started thinking I should quit.
