Is Autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) porn?

  1. For those of you who dont know what it is. ASMR is basically a 3D audio type experience which feels like you are in the same room as the person. There are dozens of vidoes on Youtube where people whisper, tap and do roleplaying like a barber shop or doctors office etc...

    This is the wikipedia description:

Autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) is an experience characterised by a static-like or tingling sensation on the skin that typically begins on the scalp and moves down the back of the neck and upper spine. It has been compared with auditory-tactile synesthesia.[1][2] Autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) signifies the subjective experience of 'low-grade euphoria' characterised by 'a combination of positive feelings, and a distinct static-like tingling sensation on the skin'. It is most commonly triggered by specific acoustic, visual and digital media stimuli, and less commonly by intentional attentional control.

So what do you guys think about it? A girl who does ASMR said that it is only sexual if the person who is doing the video makes it sexual.

    Yes.
I've heard some pretty randy ASMR.

As a whole I also believe the innocent ones are at the list triggering, even if they are not intended to be. It is ear pleasure afterall.

  3. I do not understand what this means!! And I'm too scared to look it up

No but some are sensual. Just listen to male ASMR instead, they're really good like Raffy taffy, mikeous, dimitri

It's not porn, at least the traditional sensory-heightening sounds aren't. There are some pseudo-ASMR "artists" who have exploited the phenomenon to sexualize it, as seems to happen with anything these days, and I would put that stuff in a completely different category.

But ASMR in itself doesn't even have to be in video or digital form, as I've heard accounts from ASMR fans who discovered these sensations early in their lives from nothing more than someone explaining something to them in a comforting voice or someone helping them with homework. And not everyone is susceptible to its effects.

Now, the question of whether or not chronic use of ASMR releases dopamine in an extreme/unhealthy way may be worth debating. Most of us aren't experts, but hopefully somebody qualified could shed some light on this.

How about finding some real stimuli to satisfy the brain (having a walk in nature, doing creative stuff, meet friends,...) instead of again sitting in front of a computer screen watching something in the hope that it will give you pleasure?

I need visual / audio stimuli to experience asmr, for example when i watch somebody clean windows in real life. That's real experience and i'm OK with that. But watching it on a screen feels like it's not healthy for my brain.

  8. Yes, some of it is used to stimulate your pleasure senses however it can also be used for mindfulness and meditation which is just as beneficial for anyone on NoFap who is trying to get over their porn addiction. You could quite easily just listen to the audio and use that for relaxation, I would compare it to listening to a relaxing sea breeze, water or forest soundscapes. It’s all about perception and mind-set it only becomes sexual if you make it that way or you are looking at something that you could consider to be a trigger. There are literally hundreds of videos they are not all sexually stimulating.

That's right, asmr does not have to be sexual at all. The point is the missing social aspect. The connection to the real world is missing. It's just pixels on a screen or sound waves from a speaker. For example: i listen to audio files my clinical hypnosis therapist recorded for me. I met the therapist in person when this audio files where recorded. I talked to the therapist about what i would like to achieve. There was social contact involved. I feel this is very important in order to rewire the brain to react to real world stimuli like it's meant to be.

I do also benefit from meditating in a forest or meadow. There are so many scents, sounds, i can feel the temperature, wind, the warm sun on my skin. There are birds singing, bees and many other insects flying and crawling around, and i am in the middle of all these living beeings. At night, looking at the milky way, it's very dark, looking at the stars knowing that every single star is a sun like ours, with planets around them, all of what i can see is part of our home galaxy, and there are unthinkable numbers of other galaxies out there... going to a waterfall, have a shower under the cold waterfall, this is real contact with the world. something a digital device can not do. And this is why i am sceptical about using digital devices to gain pleasure / relaxation, when there is so much pleasure and relaxation we can find in the real world that is just waiting for us to go outside and make connection.

You may remember Neo when he first disconnected from the Matrix. At first, his eyes where not able to see properly, his muscles where weak. He had to train his eyes and muscles in order to perceive the real world. As soon as we are able to use our eyes, brain and body properly in the real world, our possibilities will be infinite.
