    Hello Fapstronauts,
My name is David. I'm 24.I'm joining this community because PMO is affecting my life in a negative way. I want to recover from porn addiction. But I'm thinking that my addiction is not quite serious. I masturbate about a least one time per 2 days. One time lasts for about one hour(watching porn and masturbation). But the effects after masturbation is not very good. I felt bad and think about other negative things in my life. I felt less motivated to do other good things in life. I felt exhausted. I can't do my work out well. I have no relationships. I don't feel confident to chase after the girl I like. And I'm thinking that it is the effect of porn. I have been watching porn for about 9 years. If possible ,I wanna quit. That's why I join this community. Please help me to quit porn.

  4. Hello and welcome! :)

Try abstaining from porn and masturbation for 30 days. Only then will you see how strong your addiction really is. I wish you all the best on your journey. Stay strong :)

    David,

Do you understand what is going on in your brain when you have urges and cravings for porn?

If so, then you should speak about it in those terms.

If not, why? Could you solve at problem at work if you did not understand the root cause of the problem? Why would this problem be any different?

Address the desire first not the behavior.

Urges and Cravings are not "bad" in and of themselves. You are not bad for having them. They are nothing more then a well understood bio-chemistry process in the your brain. Trying to just like holding up a falling wall suppress them might make it even worse. You need to understand what they are and then rework your relationship with them.

The porn industry fully understands this science. They used this knowledge to hook you.

  10. How about explaining this in more detail?

for sure. glad to. sharing it actually helps me understand it all better

for starters here is xpost from myself from another thread. easier than typing again.

Porn industry understand all this well understood science all too well.. Its what their business is built on.

google " a mind map for sex and porn addiction" 4 min video is a great primer. until you understand and internalize this sience, learning what to do to better manage your cravings / urges for porn is putting the cart befor the horse.

Understanding and managing the urges are the keys to success. Fighting them back only makes them worse.

    100% . this

This is so wierd. If I could post links I was going to post that exact ted talk as well.

Blew my mind when I saw it for the first time 5 days.

Then the below video put it all together for me (with I few other tools/methods I just put together on my own.

google How To Stop Porn Addiction By Managing Cravings And Urges.

5th day for me with no P, really only think about it briefly when it pops into my wrongly wired brain. By simple changing my relationship with urge, they go away quickly and without much effort

I am still totally shocked that this science, tools, methods does not come up in every single new "help me thread". Ive added them to a few. Working with one poster (teenager) in the forum to help him step by step. Porn damaging affects on adolescents is magnified (I think that was in the Ted talk you posted might be something else I read online), so really felt bad for him and want to help motivate him to approach this from known science vs just fighting it.

Porn Industry is the fucking nut low, terrible cancer on society.

I agree. There should be some warnings regarding addiction at the start of porn movies. It may happen in the near future. Still far away as this is not a "mainstream" addiction.

If by mainstream you mean lives under the rug as its so taboo for people addicted and anyone else, then yeah

If by mainstream you mean one of the less common addictions I would disagree. I am completely pulling this out of my arse, but I would suspect the number of people addicted to porn worldwide exceeds all other addictions combined.

The damages to ones health and life or now starting to get communicated in modern ways to the masses ( on the internet) that all can understand vs in longwinded impossible for most to understand scientific papers/theories published by researchers/scientists.

Internet porn, click click instant access (and totally free) exploded this cancer.

Ironic but it is sites like this and other info on the internet that will hopefully start to stunt its grown and maybe even start to show declines.

Whoever benefits financially from a porn site (while fully aware of the damage it does to peoples lives) needs to burn in hell for eternity.

Mainstream as in it is yet to receive the widespread legislative, scientific funding, and legal attention that other more commonly known addictions receive.

100%. Totally agree. This forum is a start . I told my therapist about it today. He is been practicing for decades , well regarded in areas he practices and he had not heard about it (older guy).

He was very interested though and asked for more info about it.

That would create free speech issues.
True. Like just imagine if legislation is passed requiring porn websites to play a video of a porn addict describing PIED before a video....
