Interesting article about how porn is affecting young people

Discussion in 'Porn Addiction' started by thorswrath32, Oct 5, 2017.

  1. Hi everyone,

I found this article today on the BBC news website which I thought was a good step forward in trying to disect how pornography and the ease of access to it is shaping the behaviours of our younger generations. I know from personal experience that having unfettered access to porn from a young age affected my perceptions.

What do you think about the article? is sex education in schools no longer fit for purpose?

WARNING, THERE MAY BE TRIGGERS IN THE ARTICLE DUE TO SOME OF THE LANGUAGE USED.

This seems to be a lot less common around here, most boys and girls I know respect themselves and other, but I've heard so many stories about rape and abuse perpetrated by teenagers in the news it's really shocking.

Interesting article. But I have to waive the bullshit flag on this comment:

"We're setting them up to go on to a porn website to learn about sex. I don't think they're going on there to get kicks, but to learn about sex and that obviously feeds into a whole societal thing."

Yeah. Right. That's exactly why the boys were interested in porn. "to learn about sex".

I do think the waxing and shaving thing is from porn and I listen to things kids are doing in middle school that I never heard of till college ! I think a big difference is pre internet you asked your parents a question and whatever answer they gave you you believed it. That or you looked it up old school in an encyclopedia. Tv certainly did not show the sex things you see today. I was watching an R rated movie and there was full male nudity! Not in the 80s. Children’s minds are like sponges. So think about it. Before you had your first sexual experience maybe you saw a few playboys but other than that you had to go on stories of friends about what sex was like. So when you had it for the first time you had nothing to compare it to. You did not think to replay a scene from porn or that you were too small. But now most men have seen tons of it before they first have sex. Imagine how it shapes your idea of what sex is supposed to be like? If you are nervous about your first time sure you are going to watch other people doing it to learn. And even if your purpose in watching it is not to learn it’s still happening.

  5. I regards to the article, it looks like a teacher making a bunch of generalizations based on her experience. To suggest that all the teenage girls that have ever participated in a sexual act were practically raped is pretty ridiculous. I didn't see any impressive or insightful correlation to the porn industry.

I think that porn is definitely impacting our society negatively, but even when you take porn out of the equation, you're still dealing with a hyper sexualized society that sends out the wrong message. You don't even have to go as far as porn to get that bad advice if you watch reality TV and listen to songs about licking everybody's balls.
I think some type of sexual education is beneficial but if I had kids, I wouldnt be comfortable with a government run school educating them on the latest sexuality the just made up.
