    Hi Fapstronauts,

I had some good streaks going for me a while back but in order to jump start (like the dead car battery I am) my reboot, the exact trigger which is currently keeping me stationary is the fact that it takes me a while to sleep at night.

I'm trying to clean up my diet by going vegetarian, drinking around a gallon of water daily, exercising a little every now and then, meditating, fasting, hot and cold showers, limiting blue light from electronics (especially in the night), eliminating sugar, occasionally taking valerian root (sleep aid). Like an insomniac even after these factors, although I may feel somewhat tired, I don't end up falling asleep as fast as I should then I give in to a P fetish that plays on my mind annoyingly.

This all started as I ended my autumn semester from university which I'm now starting to transition into a holiday where I could work on my seriously disrupted sleeping pattern (average sleep time - 3am, wake time 12pm noon). Because it's the Christmas holiday I don't have many commitments so I end up feeling generally rested when I wake up...it's just the sleep/wake times that need adjusting.

Shall I just ride it out through the week and hope that the 3hr+ insomnia will pass? (probably would, but something to ease the struggle would help). Advice would be much appreciated thanks.

You might try a sleep phase advance by staying up all night one night and going to bed at the ideal time the next, along with light exposure during the day the next day. There's the biological clock and just how tired you are overall. We were talking about this in another thread, exercise should help too since there's a role with clock genes and muscles, but also cover your basis with daylight exposure through the eyes for setting the SCN in the brain.

Have you tried melatonin as a sleeping aid?

I might try melatonin if all else fails but I feel it's no different to valerian root. I've pulled an all-nighter so will see how that goes lol. It's Christmas Day tomorrow so the streets will be empty for me to have a solo jog, that will help for sure. Thanks for your input guys Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Melatonin is a hormone, your body naturally makes it if you take care of things like diet and light exposure. It may be good to take as a supplement for an adjustment like they use it for jet lag but in the long term it's good to think about your daily schedule.

Did you know one of the best cures for insomnia is sleeping outside, if you can go camping, failing that remove all electronical devices from your sleeping area, get plenty of fresh air, you'll be amazed at how much sleep you will get and restore your bodies natural clock.
