I think I'm getting blackmailed

Discussion in 'Off-topic Discussion' started by Deleted Account, May 15, 2018.

  1. I received an email last Wednesday that I just opened today. It was sent to my Gmail acct and it was in my primary section.

It said that the last pornography website I visited , some guy saw me on my laptop camera "tugging my chicken" and that I needed to send 325$ US money in bitcoin to some server. If I don't WITHIN 24 hours, he would send the video to everybody in my contacts.

Keep in mind I haven't visited any porn sites or pubs or have "tugged my chicken" at all since December. And before then, I pretty much 100% used my phone. I rarely used my laptop to watch porn. Almost always, if not always, on my phone.

The sketch thing is its been 24 hours. I'm thinking of blocking him and disabling my Gmail acct for a bit. If it was something (which I'm scared shitless tbh) the it wasn't anything too weird like child porn or illegal, maybe just embarrassing. My penis isn't small for me to be embarrassed in that sense, but my Gmail is full of peers and mainly family members.

It would have had to be one weird instance way back in the day.

The things that sketch me out,
1)he knew my name, in my email, my last name is spelled different.
    2)it could be a possibility
3)it's been over 24 hours so I'm like wtf
4)IT WAS IN MY PRIMARY SECTION OF THE EMAIL

  2. It's probably a scam. I highly doubt it's anything to be concerned about. Just ignore it. And do NOT respond.

  3. The above comment is seconded. Ignore it completely and don't worry.

  4. @Castielle @LiquidShoes I blocked him. I looked online and it says it's most likely a scam except the fact he knows my name. My last name I spell differently in my email and he got that right.

I don't think I ever logged into my Gmail acct for porn.. I'm just an overthinker and I'm sketched

  5. Idk I saw online a example email almost in that same manner. It seems casual and like, "I know your surprised by my email" type thing and extorting currency to a bitcoin address. It's just how he knows my name..

I don't think I've used my laptop that often for porn. There was literally a black mirror episode about this where everybody died

  6. Do you normally give out your real name online? In any medium? Be it social media, a website?

  7. I'm pretty sure there are tons of different ways someone could find out your name if they're tech savvy.

  8. Yeah but nothing sketchy. I've never gave any info on porn sites. I use incognito mode. Hell, I use incognito mode for this website. Almost always on my phone. If he said we hacked my phone camera, I would pay him lmao (probably not).

It's been like a week basically and he said I had 24 hours so I think we chilling

  9. This likely has absolutely nothing to do with porn sites. It's not that big of a leap to scam a guy by emailing him about how you've video taped him jacking off to porn, since most every guy has done that and its something they would fear having posted publicly.

  10. Lol
I never thought it was something that was happening outside
Anyway do you think he would shut up after just one payment... And that's assuming it is a genuine videotape and all that...

  11. Oh geez, I didn't see the "Wednesday" part. I admit to laughing a bit when you said it's been a week.

I won't pretend to be tech-savvy, so I can't give an answer on how he ( I'm thinking an 'it' ) knew your name, but you don't have much worry about, especially since it's been a week. This is similar to a strat scammers that pretend to be psychics use.

EDIT: I'm not sure why you thought you were being blackmailed when it's been nearly a week since you got the message. You weren't lying when you said you're an overthinker.

If the email didn't provide a link to the alleged video to prove that it exists, the threat is pure bullshit.
This kind of scam is fairly commonplace. I have seen it reported in mainstream news media. In the story I saw the scammer threatens to tell the wife what hubby has been up to online!
Some 15 year old kid in Russia is going to buy a luxury car with the money he makes off of this.

  13. Well I blocked him, that's it. I don't like making decisions when I'm tired, drunk, or horny. The former is me right now, so..

Also, lowkey glad that I quit porn so if I receive a email like this I'll know 100% it's b.s.

    We allll good

  14. Yeah, definately sounds like a scam. I had something scary happen to me once. I opened my laptop and it was a red screen saying that the fbi knew i was looking at child porn (i wasnt by the way) and i had to send 300 dollars to unlock my computer. i researched it and it turned out to be a scam.

    1. Check your antivirus and antimalware if you dont have trojan in your computer. Without it there is no way how to access your webcam and your mail contacts at the same time.
    2. If you were webcaming on some doggy pornsite, they might store the video but they have no way how to access your email contacts.
(They would either need trojan in your computer or hack your mail account.)
    3. It is not so simple to hack your gmail account, since it has lot of security contrameasures including if somebody would login from different location that you usually login, gmail would send you security notification about it.
Just make sure that you dont have same password to the mail as you were using on the porn websites. That would be just stupid.
    4. If they really have the video, they would show it to you --> much more effective in black mail to get your money.
They dont show it only if they dont have it, and try to play on your fear to scam you.

  16. Thanks for everybodys reply.

Just an update, nothing happened. I over think too much.

It was just how he knew my name and spelled it correctly. But I don't use my laptop for porn and haven't used porn in a long long time. Let alone using my email address or real name on sites.

Regardless, I don't negotiate with terroists. If you think about it, it's a great scam. There's a large significant amount of young men espically using porn on a daily basis.

I blocked the terroist and deleted my contacts off my Gmail account so he can't know where to send it if he did.

I was legit stressing about this, but starting to think it's b.s. I need to work on not over-thinking

  17. Its natural to be scared, i was terrified when that scam happened to me, but its all good.

There is a whole thread on this on Reddit on r/scams.

The words on the email are different every time but it's the same theme of them asking you to pay $$$ in bitcoins to remove your so called "clip" of masturbating.

Don't pay attention to it. They don't have any clip of you.

  19. Oh update, it's all good. It was a fugazi

  20. Obviously it’s a fake. Even if it was real why would you even stress over it? Let’s face it you and probably 99.9% of us, myself included, on this site aren’t that important for a tug pick to ruin our lives. We’re not public figures in high positions of power.

    Seriously people.
