I compulsively type in the search terms for my material of choice, but click out

I have been getting much better at avoiding watching material, but there is an issue that raises the temptation to give in. Whenever I am on my computer, I always keep typing in the terms of the vile material into search engines, but then clicking out as soon as the results show up. My brain has gotten so wired over the years that this just happens almost instinctively. Does anyone else do this and how do they stop a potential tempting thumbnail or something from leading to yet another relapse?

I have done this too and I find that it is one of the most triggering activities that I can engage in. It seems to put me in a downward spiral so I would say avoid it if you can.

To work against that using P blockers and locking Google SafeSearch and keeping it on puts me one step back. Also, clearing my browser history as far back as possible so that something does not accidentally pop up if you do find yourself typing something into the searchbar

Don't do that. You're not relapsing, but you're playing with fire my friend. Get too close, and you will get burned. Leave it alone, find a hobby, or go outside.

Yeah I've done the exact same thing. Sometime just on a search engine watching the typing symbol flash on and off - and that alone is a trigger for typing in anything I want.

I'm pretty sure there's some info either here or on YBOP, where it's said the anticipation of an addictive action is wired as a pleasure as well...?

Anyways, I have found the best solution is to literally close down the computer and do a completely different task.

If you're at work or working from home, and leaving the computer is not an option because or those responsibilities, I would at the very least take a break and make a tea, chat to a colleague or just take in your surroundings and remember the bigger picture.

It happens to me too, not only with porn but with other things as well. In my experience, it is a feeling of compulsiveness also linked to a sensation of anxiety, but it is a vicious circle, which does not end, indeed, it begins when we put thoughts into action.

My advice is to accept the thought, and write it down on a piece of paper, just what happens in your head, then once you are done and you feel lighter and more aware, take the piece of paper and throw it away, and go on with your stuff. Meditation also helped me.
