How long for brain fog and emotional issues to lift?

In a nutshell, I'm 28 year old dude who grew up in a borderline abusive house and have been PMOing since I was ~12 - generally averaging ~2 times a day with an occasional brief break here and there (couple days at best). High speed internet arrived on the scene when I was ~14 and I've recently been diagnosed with ADD (finally). I've generally been depressed and not so good socially ever since I can remember with moderate to severe brain fog fluctuations being one of my biggest complaints. Over the last year or two, I've started hearing stories of how PMO can cause brain fog, depression, ADD like symptoms....pretty much everything I don't like about myself really, so I figured I might give this nofap thing another try.

I know this varies, but generally speaking, when could I expect the brain fog, depression, and memory problems to go away for good? I remember seeing a generic 'what to expect during reboot' timeline, but I can't seem to locate it now. Just wondering when this milestone was reached for some that may have been in a similar boat before rebooting.

I am no authority on rebooting. I’m only 30+ days in so far. What I have learned about emotional issues is that, it all depends on the root cause. Rebooting is necessary and probably one of the strongest things a long time user needs to do in order to move towards better emotional health.

In my case, PMO came AFTER the root causes that led me to my emotional suffering. In other words, I started suffering first THEN started using PMO. Over time, PMO became a problem in it of itself, but the original wounds remain and must be dealt with separately.

Good luck my friend, stay with it.

I'm thinking I may be in a similar boat and my PMO really was a coping method. However, PMO also causes emotional issues as well, or at minimum exacerbates them quite a lot.

Good point, PMO definitely messes with a human being’s emotions and mind all on its own.

One other thing I’ll share, it helped me turn a big corner. I have a family and I realized that my PMO issues were hurting them. My wife and kids were being deprived of the best version of me and as a result, I was at least complicit in causing them unhappiness and maybe even setting them up for long term issues. That realization was eye opening to me. No matter how it seems, it’s not just you that PMO affects, in some way it affects everyone around you too.

    Hope all is well!

  6. Yes, I would say it varies greatly from person to person, in my personal experience I start to see past the haze after 7 days. Perhaps some people need to abstain longer to see positive effects. It's the period of flat lining that always gets to me when I re attempt a streak of days. I hope you accomplish your goals!

Anyone else have some experience to share? I'm not looking for anyone to predict my pattern - just wondering what everyone else's experience with this piece is.
